This is a similar setup done in 2003. Nothing has failed except a Stainless Marine 5" setback jack that I snapped on 1 side. They exchanged it for the 5" guerilla jack that is currently on there. No signs of any transom fatigue for years now and lots of rough water abuse. The first of these we did we had gussets on both sides of the tie bars but then realized it wasn't necessary as long as the heim joint is tightened to the gusset. It's not floating. If you think I'm wrong tell it to Latham Marine, I'm sure they would get a kick out of that. They do double gusset with big power and I have that on a couple of my boats, not necessary here. I've seen a number of Velocity transoms fail as well as other brands. Depends what your running through. We run them hard ask Rob from Raybo Marine. He put a new transom in my sons the pictures above. Ben just about ripped it out of the boat. When he was done with the transom we did the knees and reinforcement. If we break one of these then we'll figure a way to make it even stronger, but no problem so far. Good luck with yours hope it all works out. If you start to see problems just keep this in mind. I really don't think a 400R would break this set up. Have fun buddy, glad to see that Verado kickin a** for ya.
    Jim

that's a lot of great info there. It's good to hear that Latham Marine actually developed their solution.

I just posted some more gratuitous engine eye candy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZXOueN9mBE

    Hi,
After coming back to boating after many years and some great racing in IOGP and SDBA I found a 22 Regal Velocity in mint condition with a 2.5 93 Merc on a 4" setback lift plate. The previous owner had only bumped 65 with it using a 24 chopper but had no idea what he had or what to do with it and probably some 400 hours at no more than 45 mph. It came with a 19 Trophy 3 blade which I originally tested it with. Obviously without the requisite set up it was squirrely but the speedo showed 64 at 7200 momentarily. I replaced the powerpacks after one failed. Next outing replaced the fuel line and filter and went to Amsoil synthetic lube at 50:1 , 75-90 lower unit lube and the 24 chopper. It took a bit to get on plane but t turned the chopper at 6850 and 74 mph developing a bad chine walk.
So now I go to an exhaust tuner and solid upper and lower mounts, a torque tab and a Bob's nose cone to cure the low water pressure problem and yes I tried Marine Texing the upper two intake holes and flow porting the lower intakes. The boat seem faster than it should be with a 200 but I'm not complaining. Now looking for some old after market parts to build the motor with. Thanks guys.

74 with 4" of setback is very good What were the conditions, solo, light on fuel, specifics. Also what engine height?
I have a 87 Regal with a 2.5 merc, 5.5" CMC jackplate and a 24 chopper with some tip cup. Best of 66. 3 people, 1/2 tank. More than 1" above pad.

Jim ,where do you buy the rods and the ends?

    Hi,
1/3 tank of fuel, Octane booster, Amsoil 100:1, 85 degrees, perfect fast water (salt). A bit higher than 1"above pad. We touched 74 on my speedo and a friends boat who was with me checked the speed. One person in boat. just shy of 6,900 rpm. The set was momentary since the mounts are stock and it was a fight to hold it long enough to get that blip. I've noted others speeds average mid 60's and a couple in the 70s. I'm still unsure if I will trade this engine and modify a 300 or just mod the one I have. There is some satisfaction in making the 2.5 run hard on a hull that big. Also going to try a friends 4 blade lightening et prop. and come back maybe another 4".

That's a strong running 2.5 ya got. A stock 3.0L 225 EFI is the perfect engine for this hull, IMO. It seems that is what most run on velocities for overall performance and great top end. If theres one thing I've learned, it's setup is were alot of speed is. Setback, height and prop is what you'll play with. When I went from 10" to the 5.5" CMC plate I definitely notice the handling difference. The 10" stood the boat on the pad much better, the 5.5 takes a bit more trim. More setback will help the top end but hirt rough watet handling. This was with the same 24 chopper
It really depends on what you use the boat for and what your want out of it. My 02 cents

    1996 velocity
    3108lbs. 828lbs at bow cleat
    26p ProMax, 400R Mercury Verado
1.5" prop above bottom of boat.
    Sportmaster gear case.

    87mph

virtual transom to hold big engine weight.

Regarding heavy engine and CofG. This engine is not heavy enough to balance my heavy layup. A light engine would make my CofG worse.
Boat mods in progress, more coming.

Im running a 300xs with the prop about 1' and 1/2 below pad and a four blade 28P Promax prop. Im still in the process of learning the boat now but I lag getting out of the hole. Is this normal with the motor sitting that high? Trim should be all the way down/in I'm assuming for launch and then trim up as a get up on plane and pick up speed correct? I've driven much bigger, heavier power boats and thats typically the case for launching

Does your prop have PVS holes?
