Gotcha. Read it. First post says simply 21-24ft. A few post`s later it says V-bottom only. Lots of V-bottoms in that group. I like the 21ft Tuff. Nice looking boat. I think the 21V Triad is faster. Prolly won`t handle the rough stuff as well tho. Not sure about the SRV. I like it to tho.

I think you'll find that this is the big surprise in the Fastest SOB thread. Generally speaking, less deadrise means more speed - but at the expense of rough water handling. If you look at the top three current contenders, they all have lots of deadrise, handle pretty darn well in the rough (given their size), but still run like scalded cats. And I can personally attest to the 22 Progression's ability to embarrass larger boats in snotty conditions!

Didn't realize you get email Notification from S&F is that new?.
Yes 2 seasons in 140 hours and the Velocity V-7 is the fastest 21ft with skier. Mikes 20FT Labsport and Franks1950 Bullet are faster in the glass but smaller boats. We all run stock 300xs and can be inspected and plugged in anytime.
Trank the Catalina polar Bear run should be 1st weekend after New years.

Having raced in many marathon races back in the 80`s I agree with you about the deadrise thing. Down here in the south we don`t get the Progression/Tuff/Challenger type boats. Our longest race was 500 miles on the Mississippi River and it was a mix of flat water to very rough depending on tug boat traffic. One of your boats would have been perfect for the rough part. My boat was a 19ft Laser 380 w/225 Yamaha Excel. Top speed was 92mph measured w/stalker radar gun. Speed was with fully loaded 72gallons of fuel and minimum weight of 1800lbs. Motors had to be totally stock.
I tested one of the first SRV`s after the engine hp rules were lowered to 150 and altho the speed wasn`t there I was very impressed with the rough water handle of the boat. I`m sure yours is even better with the higher deadrise. I would love to drive one someday.

Yes. it's a different kind of boating up here. I'm right on the south shore of Lake Ontario and I can tell you, it gets rough. There was a time many years ago when Hydrostreams, Switzers and such very briefly enjoyed some popularity. But then everyone figured out (when the boats fell apart) that they just weren't going to cut it in big water. And nobody has been silly enough to try running STVs or anything similar for the exact same reasons.
The other thing running in rough water does - pretty quickly - is teach one how to run hard without killing the boat or the occupants. Calm water can be fun for a top speed blast, but watching somebody who really knows how to drive in the rough is something you won't soon forget.
If you're ever up here, look me up and I'll take you out in my Progression.1992 Progression 22

One of Laveycraft's 22 foot SOB V's powered with a 400. Wonder if there are any out there with a 300XS. Great looking West Coast boat and tons of room.

Hey Greg this thread could go to a whole new level now with the 400R. You did say stock power on a new hull. Maybe someone will put together a new set up with a 400.

Well, it did say 21 - 24 ft with a stock single outboard...
Think the Purple Tuff 24 with the 400ROS might take this to that level.I CAN ALWAYS MAKE ANOTHER DOLLAR, BUT I CANNOT MAKE ANOTHER DAY

24 footers would require a new thread but there is word that the Boys in Belgium are preparing a new 21 Xtreme with a 400ROS after having great race success with the 300XS............ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RsjzjKDZss
