25' Checkmate Convincor I/O to twin O/B's

Have a lead on one motor in Fla.
Have a buddy checking it out for me.
If legit he will haul/store it for me until we can road trip down.

My plan now is to go through both motors to build a matching pair of FrankenRude IIIs.

I have two sets of 2.7 heads and a pair of late era medium bore carbs that are my favorites for a lake boat.
Frank III already has stuffed intakes and front half and Boyesen reeds.

Motor needs to be 25”.
I have a line on a 20” motor for a donor powerhead but have not acted.

Sonic 1 at speed.

It flew way better and was 10 mphs faster than #2 and never figured out why.

Follow the lifting strikes and transom lines and there’s no bottom in the water.
That boat came w/20” motors and they drowned coming off/on plane.

So ? Sonic 1 20" setback,plus jackplates.. is that running with jackplates in pic? And those are 20 or 25 "

’1999 225, installed new in ‘2000 on 24’ Hydrasports which it just came off of.
Dealer maintained from day 1, rebuilt gear case 6 months before removal.
Near Zero corrosion and perfect compression.

Comes w/harness, controls and spare stainless prop.
$1500.

Now have reason for a Fla trip.

A special thank you to Don Dings (magnum2.5) who w/a 24 hr notice drove an hr to do the inspection for me.
He is also storing it for me until I can get down there and pick it up.

Working on the sun lounge this week.

It has seen better days and needs some love.
After 30+ yrs of use/abuse, the hinges have worked loose, as did the lift supports which allowed water intrusion which then rotted some of the core.
On top of this, the seam between top/bottom had separated in areas.

When they cut the hole for the hood scoop (which I got a $100 for) they did it right and sealed the balsa core that was exposed but not so much on the mounting bolt holes which caused more rot for me to dig out.

All repairs have been made and Im on the cosmetics now.

In that picture, 20” setback, no plates and yes, 25” motors, both Sonics.

That was my first 24’ Sonic.
It came with 20” 2.4s which I changed to 25” 250 OMCs.
That boat ran 80.

The second one came w/25” 225 3.0 Mercs on a 24” bracket. It ran 67 GPS.
W/warmed up 225 OMCs it ran 70.
Raised/lowered motors, tried a wall of props (that ran 80 on first one), stock gear cases, Lightning’s etc.
I had it upside down to paint hull and planned to blue print bottom which was terrible but never did.
Cant see it being 10 mphs though.

They were inner liner boats too so you couldn’t tell if it was still glued together or not.

Again, look at the two pixs and you can see which one is faster.

I read it in the post, was just curious you said it came with 20" motors if you changed it before that pic.
No setup differences that would account for the 10 mph difference
