Thread: Looper exhaust porting

a bit glazed, but not damaged in any way.
By the upcoming weekend I should have it apart and by then I will post some piston pics.
I’m still a bit puzzled by the disapearing JB Extreme Heat... I probably need to start look for small set screws iot re-stuff the idle reliefs. I don’t really like the idea of having metal pieces in the close vicinity of the moving piston, but I can see any other solution!? Perhaps automotive exhaust repair putty?

Did you power wash the hull and get water in the tank under the tank lid?
Pyro-Puty 1000 is great but $ fir such a small use. If you wanted to do some work in the exhaust chest it could also be used there.
Too small an area on the back side of the relief to get some real welding done?
Or too tight to drill the relief and press fit a pug or thread one in, Allen head ?
1/8 NPT Edelbrock 9129 Internal Allen Head Pipe Plug Fittings or might that lead to a crack? Maybe straight non taperedLast edited by FMP; 10-24-2018 at 05:45 PM.

You will also need a 4" or 100mm micrometer to go with the bore gauge. Measuring tools are really not that expensive compared to pistons.
When all you have is feeler gauges then use a piston ring to get an idea of the taper. Push it into the bore different depths with a piston top and compare the end gap.

No water in the fueltank!
Concerning the idle reliefs: Straight, non tapered Allen screws could probabably do the trick, question is weather std Locktite thread lock could cope with the heat?? Still can´t understand why the JB Extreme didn´t work when people on this board are using Marine Tex??
I posed another question earlier (lot of q`s...)Do I have anything to gain by cutting the exh liner just below the flange? More space for the gasses to expand at take off!?
Look forward to your thoughts and insights!Last edited by Captain75; 10-25-2018 at 12:17 PM.

whats the story on your cooling system, does the engine get hot enough?

I haven´t had the possibility to instrumentally measure the temperature.
The heads at least get so warm that it becomes impossible to touch them with bare hands...
I am running a stock 2.7 cooling system, including the diverter valve that is linked to throttle/gear positions. The closed deck poppet valve has been replaced by a 6mm overboard outlet.

Hoping you can reuse your pistons. How cold was your hose water during break-in. You ran two hrs on hose, no load?

FYI, I put standard JB weld in my bleed holes and ran all summer. Still great compression. Not sure why your Jb extreme didn't hold up.
