light weight seat base materials?

Looking to make a light weight back seat base for my Liberator 21 back seat. Should I use a composite core with a sandwich construction? If so what materials? current seat base made from wood and seat weighs 105lbs!!!. any help is greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is more than likely to use Coosa 26, lighter than ply, no rot ever and is really strong.

TwsteD is make from h80, gonna be pretty lite. But it needs more glass than a coosa seat would need. And we have to make plugs with tnuts to bolt it to the mounts. Coosa would prob be heavier but wouldn't need the plugs.

If you want really light h-80 is the way to go, just have to add extra glass like gorilla, coosa would be strongest but heaviest also, depending on how you want to go, coosa is also 3x the price of h-80, so that is something to keep in mind also.

Not exactly sure what you mean by base, used to make seat bottoms and backs out of PVC board a lot. Some on towers and t tops, some on pontoons. Light weight, no rot, not uv resistant but it should never see sun once it's covered in foam and vinyl.

Pvc board also makes great seats. Can staple to it and use it like wood.

By "base" I'm referring to the bottom/back structure. not including the foam or vinyl. Thanks for the tips.

Think about NidaCore also. Actually cheaper than good plywood, light, won’t rot. You don’t need particularly high performance core for an upholstered seat base that won’t see the actual slamming loads of a bottom panel.
