About that era, I sent them a letter too.

They just came out with, and I bought, an electric powered, scale model of a Molinari tunnel boat w/a scale version of an in-line for power.

Very nicely detailed but what got me was, in bold print, on the front of the box, it said:

“WILL REACH PLANE IN 2 SECONDS!”

At that point in my life, I was playing with and building gas powered model boats and knew there was no way.
Electric RC’s we’re still decades away.

I think it was powered by four D cell batteries.

Of course it wouldnt come close to planing, even if thrown on plane!

I think I was 12/13 at the time.

I sent them a scathing letter (in pencil I’m sure) and told them and what a piece of crap their model was and how they lied about it’s performance!

I closed my critique by telling them they should stick to making bowling balls! : )

Amazingly, I got a response a month or so later.

Their reply started by saying, “never let it be said that we don’t stand behind our product”.

It then admitted that they were mistaken on their performance claims and included a refund for the boat : ) : ) : )

Was a way cool model but way heavy (especially w/the batteries in it) and way under powered.
    I think I burned it.

Probable be worth a couple $k today!

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

when i was about 15-16 i sent a letter to OMC told them how i was planning to modify there 90 v4. port work, reed stops, bore the 4bbl venturies, etc. they sent me a letter, please do not mod our motor. its been engineered for max dependability, port timing can not be changed. also x115 pistons, heads will not work with your motor. being a know it all, ordered the parts, did all the mods, couldnt find a prop with enough pitch, turning 7700, wasted 2 lowers, finally kicked a rod out. gained 12 mph, 2 blade prop. mission accomplished!

I had a Sun Mach 10 (I think) mounted in my dash where the stock tach went in that blue Z28 I posted a picture of.

No bobble head dolls though... I did have a some junk hanging from the rear view mirror though!

Mids and tweeters in the door and a set of 10" Pile Drivers in the rear, two amps and an EQ.

I sold the Z for $2500 and definitely regret it!

I had an "Automatic Radio" 8 track under the dash in my Bronco... Still sported the AM radio too!

The Z came with a Pioneer radio and coaxil 6X9s. Then moved up to a Craig radio, amp and 6X9s... Finally a Kenwood I had in it last.

I was running the roads when all the cool girls had a roach clip with a feather hanging from their rear view!

Speaking of old Ferrari's. I was watching a rerun of Mannix the other night and the bad guys were driving around in this 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC on dirt roads.
