    Big bearing freshwater case

Fishin case...used...good driveshaft nut threads and carrier retainer nut threads. I was gonna build a coned case with it but then realized I already have 4 lowers and don't need another one...its a later one with zincs on the sides.

$200 plus shipping or you can pick it up in the bay area, California.

Its a C not a C1 case. So no zincs on the sides. The zincs you see are from a sportmaster underneath it on my stand.

For any prospective buyers I can cone this and put the lwp on it for a couple hundred more. And if noone buys it I will be coning it.

Yes, its a 1647-9147 big bearing case. And I have one Land N Sea nose cone left from my stash. The ones that weigh like 1/4 of what the Bob's overbuilt ones weigh...I'll weld that on and putty it up if this isn't sold in a few weeks.

Can you or anyone here answer a technical question for me? Why did all the cases after 9147-C quit using the oil ladder sleeve around the driveshaft? What exactly did they change in the casting that replaced the sleeve and made it so oil travels upward?

Did the getting rid of the sleeve do anything for performance other than changing the oiling?

Think it went away when the double bearing driveshaft came into service. The same spiral sleeve would not fit with the double bearing driveshaft.
Probably realized it wasn’t needed once removed. There’s so much turbulence going on in the gearcase that oil is getting to the upper bearings.

Nah C1, C2, C3 and C4 are still single bearing but don't have the sleeve.

Its true none of the double bearing cases ever had it. But the 4 hole CLE cases had it both the narrow passage (fishing guts) and the wide passage (sporty guts). They had the oil sleeve in all the CLEs, even during the production of the sportmasters without it...so why did the fishing cases stop using it beginning with the C1 case?

Like I said probably realized it wasn’t needed to oil the top bearing.
More then likely used up existing inventory and now it’s NLA.

Ok this case got the nose tacked on, original water pickups closed, and is getting a mild torque tab installed.

I'll epoxy it all up and prime it, then it will be for sale as an empty coned big bearing case. $750

If anyone has a big bearing gearset (mercury #43-44104A2) and a propshaft (44-94148) I will consider buying it and building this complete. I have a carrier, driveshaft etc. already.
