Removed the cabin and blueprinted the bottom. With a 300x ran 93. Not quite as fast as Ben's as I think he's even found some more speed. I managed to strip 700lbs out of the boat by removing the cabin and the way the regal one's were built and switching from standard plywood to Okoume.
Thanks for the post talonkid. Pretty interesting when you compare all the speeds that are being recorded for the Velocity SOB's. Ben's old style with no cabin clocking 97 mph regularly with a 300X. Your boat, which had the cabin so a bit higher deck ran 93 also with an X but you had to remove 700 lbs to get that speed. Then aaronmt73 with the cabin and all the weight still in his ran 84 mph with a 300XS. Then the new 230SC running 78 with a V8.

Probably the only mold that has produced the same running surface from 1984 to today with almost no tweaks to it. Stepp got it right.

If I were Velocity USA I would change the cabin a bit and do what the Ultra 23XS and Laveycraft 21 XCS and Progression do in the pictures below and add the small facing jumper seats under there for better use. Then you can convince your wife that writing the large check for a "family boat" with a potti makes sense as the kids have a place to get out of the weather when not going 80. Should easily pass the sniff test.

Wonder why Velocity added the transom wings to the 230. Maybe it makes production a little easier or maybe adding LOA to get 23' makes insurance easier.

    No idea.

My guess is pricing will be higher for a 23, I think it looks ridiculous but to each their own.

The transom “wings” are peppered throughout the Velocity lineup not just the 230. I thought it was just styling updates.

The "wings" just look like they were stuck on as a last minute we gotta do sumptin different change. The abrupt change on the outer coaming is not blended at all. Even a scoop trim pc would help.

Spoke to Walt a while ago about Velocity and the plans. Fit and finish looks great. 220 and 230 share the same hull, might have already been stated.

They could always put a hinged louver in the front of the wings to blend it and also use them to store a dock fender on each side. Or just chop 'em off.

With the success on the larger hulls, rumor is Velocity will be rigging a 230 SC with a Porta Bracket next targeting mid 80's with the V8 300R tall boy.
