AK47 Thread
Always been a fan of the AK, especially how much abuse and dirt you throw at it, it will still cycle. I know there's gotta be some here who also feel it is superior to the AR15.

IMO The AK has its place in History. And is a Fine Weapon. Superior to the AR/M16??? Thats debatable. But non the less a Fine Weapon. To Completely understand the AK vs AR platform one needs to understand the Two designers. AK (Automat Kalashnikov) After the designer Makhail Kalashnikov a tank design Engineer. So in My thinking his theory was to design a weapon as durable as a tank which he accomplished. But The AK lacks accuracy over 200 yards due to barrel flex and its antiquated Sights which are difficult to adjust. The other feature it lacks is the Empty Magazine Open Bolt feature. But Weapon tech makes a Open Bolt Follower that replaces the follower in the original metal magazines and some Polymer but not the mag Pul Mags. But It clearly packs a Punch above the AR. AR (Armalite) Designed by Eugene Stoner a Aircraft design Engineer. So Most likely Why the AR platform is as Complicated and also far more versatile over the AK. And can be Built in Several Calibers and configurations. But the AK is a Fun Weapon to shoot But IMO extremely uncomfortable and Awkward in its original Configuration. So Its the very reason I completely dissembled mine and Started a Complete rebuild with A modern Twist So here is My AK 47 and what I finally came up with. A Modern Forward Grip and Butt Stock thats adjustable with a more ergonomic grip and adjustable Cheek rest. 75 Rnd Drum Mag and 6 30 Rnd magazines.

I owned a black nylon folder AK and saddly sold it wish I had it back , but did I or do I IMO think an AK is “better” than an AR ? In what way , yes is less picky about grime and dirt to cycle properly but out of a box more accurate NOT NO BUT HELL NO ....
JMO having owned both !!

The AK mags can be made to work if you do it that way. The "drop in" conversions don't feed for s***! Once you've used the stripper clips with the stock mag it's hard to get into the mods. One lever to dump, so easy to recharge with the strippers. Doesn't stick out or look "scary." Win-win for me. And I usually knock out the pin for the pig sticker and leave it at home...
