I didn’t believe a 260 would run 125 until the I saw it with my own eyes at the Suwannee shoot out back in 2002.

Brad,
You need to come down and run with him. He won't stay with you in a 6 or 8 hundred feet but run him for a mile or two of river and turns. You will be amazed what a multi hundred hour motor with 87 octane does. He has it working really well on his Allison to. I don't know of anyone that logs more miles on the St. Johns between SR 46 and Lake George then Jason. He will take you through the back trails that he runs the air boats on and it will make you a believer of the term "skinny water". I have no idea how he doesn't get lost but he runs almost everyday knows it like the back of his hand.

Dan Filtenborg's 1989 Pro Comp ran 126 (that was where the CLE would blow out). The boat ran in the 9 second bracket but it had a turbo charged brigeport on Alcohol to do it. He would make 4 or 5 passes and drain the case on the lift in front of his house. The gear lube stench was unbelievable and it looked like water "not exactly a usable recreation rig". There are guys here on the board that remember him running against blown flat bottoms and hydros.

Speed Jr, respect your deep track record but you needed to actually have read my post.
I embraced the 300R V8 as a powerhouse. Read closely that I said "that market" not what you wrote incorrectly as "the market" for all that is new. My meaning of course was specifically the lighter weight V6 alternatives that the smaller boat guys like me on this site would like to purchase. I have all three different vendors right now on crappy boats so I have general knowledge.
I'm thankful that Merc is pushing forward on new tech with warranty but lets be clear, they introduced the V8 in 2018. Two years should be enough to give us a 225R V6 with warranty and 250 HP at less than 500 pounds. Certainly with the "new tech' we can buy today for $25k which is no gift dollar wise. You and I can agree to disagree on that. I have this little fella below that just came out of paint and I've nothing to hang on it until Merc steps up and gives me a V6 R.
Don't care at all about triple and quad 300Rs. To me, no "small boat" motor option is not supporting your consumer. Also, you can't get side steering ram option on a 250R? Not cool. Appreciate and support that Merc's moving forward but they have not IMO done all they can or should do for the money we give.
Give me a lighter weight Porkchop V6 Mother Merc! Btw a Vmax 300 HPDi is 66" from skeg bottom to cowl top and can make 340hp. How tall is the V8?
Enjoy your night Jr. !

I hear ya Greg. Unfortunately there are a thousand pontoon/fishing/rec boats for every one of our lightweight go fasts.
I measured the 300r prop shaft to top of cowling a few months ago and I wish I wrote it down but 67" rings a bell, which makes it 11" taller than my current setup. Its a tall motor no doubt.

I asked you which way you balance your wheels .. you know what generic , non specific answers tell me, right ..
OK, I give up ... You've seen all of what .. ?
Discourage young people ... plenty of young guys here that I speak with at least once a week about technical issues .. my own kid will even tell you , that when I said no more video games, we got work to do ... I'd give it 5 ~ 10 minutes and I kill the electricity to the house. He could explain what he learned about being punctual to his mom , while they reset all the clocks that afternoon. No better teacher than experience .
We all kind of jib n jab back and forth .. but what did I say .. if thats the motor you want , can afford to pay for it , wear your safety gear .. then go for it ..
I still don't think that a 300r is a good choice .. no let me say .. the best choice for a Mirage that only runs on a 2600' long lake. I've seen plenty of light boats with big motors 10 feet up and 60 feet deep in the Mangroves when I lived down .. err .. farther south than I do now.
I might sound like the guys in the commercial that have turned into their dad. But it happened to me before i knew what happened .. So for what it's worth, I spew grandfatherly thought's and advise .. cant help it .. but take it for what you paid for it ...
I don't need a personal tour of your prop~shop . Put your work out here on this public forum. Show some dedicated tooling. You don't have to show us the spots where you slip a shim in to try and fool the blades cord length into thinking that it carries more or less pitch in the sweet spot.
There was a guy here a few years ago that machined his own barrel, broached his own solid hub splines. "Built"
his own blades , welded it all up , balanced them and spit shined then when he was done ...
If that's your passion .. I'm behind you 110%
I only do my own "adjustments" .. so I used a big drop for my arbor stand , bought PESCO pitch blocks . I already had a drawer full of bucks and dolly's , a planishing hammer , 4 lb Garland with rawhide and copper pucks. I made my own balance wheel blocks and mandrel .. If I have one that gives me fits .. I take it to my bud at Stuart propeller and let them straighten it out ..
Got tired of getting the run around .. found a guy in California that barely speaks English ... I said pour me a set of 15* 15" x 34" 4 blade cleavers.
Took them in the box to my friends place to scan them on his pitch / balance computer .. most consistent set of wheels I have ever seen ..

Then, of course ... they go to the deep freeze ...

To be specific Chaz I static balance after rough grinding, then double check and make adjustments after I balance it pitch/cup wise as well. I go down to the 1/10th so if one blade is 24.3 on scale G then you bet my other blades are going to be 24.3 as well at that certain point(s). So again I balance it 2 ways. Pitch/cup match as the stock and even the labbed props from the bigger companies can be fine tuned much further.

I did do the balancing and work on that prop yes. Not looking to swing a hammer as i'm already doing a bunch of side props for friends and some Guys that race Jon boats down south. But send me a message and it is winter so i can find some time to help you make it into what it needs to do or not doing currently
