Bent rod would not take away all the cross hatching from the bore, might take away cross hatch one side
just what I think, you might be right though ?

It depends on the rod crank combo. If bottom guild it could bind as it rotates. Not there did not do it. Also if ya don't get the bottom of blind bore right it can twist piston.

I agree with racer. Probably missed center or had something tween block and bar.

I think there may be confusion in the location of the damage to the cylinder, Bottom of the cylinder being straight down when looking from the back of the motor or is it Bottom Dead Center.

My bad- block was not clean- I used a different cleaner than in the past- Wisdom from Chris Carson (thanks for the call) Likely I used a solvent based cleaner rather than detergent based. Chris says solvent based cleaners will not get the microscopic grit out of crosshatch where as detergent based cleaner will. This piston was a new WSM with the black coating. Another lesson learned.

In this day and age of ... Lets see who I can find to point a finger at . It's nice to see someone who can man-up and take responsibility for their own actions .
Mr. Carson is one of the sharpest crayons in the box , I have no doubt he will guide you in the right direction .
Hope to see you post a new personal best ....... after you break it in .

I use purple power and water hotter than I can physically stand. Take a white towel and put it in the bottom of the tub you are using. It helps trap the grit and you'll be amazed what settles out.

The comments on speed of a 22' x 9' deck boat is not about speed but rather as a measure of power motor is putting out - I have had about a dozen different motors on this hull so it is my constant - my measuring stick- I know what a 200 hp will push it and what a 150 hp will do- so it is my way to get an idea for what is coming out of an engine. Yeah- 40 mph when you guys are talking about 120 mph is small fish. Thanks for eveyone comments.
