Only seen clumpage when you mix some other stuff with it, and then it"s a clear gell looking stuff.

I've seen drums of all different oils get thick/clumps at the bottom if they sit to long. I always shake bottles of oil before dumping them.

yes I have had a gallon of mercury oil go clumpy, it was not even opened but could of been a couple of years old !!!
when I opened it up and started pouring I could not believe it, at first I thought there was some paper towel in with this crap.
I then had to chuck out the oil in the tank and start again, this time I used a sieve and I reckon about 2 cup fulls of this clumpy gel like crap came out.
The I start thinking what the f... is it, is this the part of the oil that keep things lubricated ? or is this something else.
so although I filtered it good I decide to chuck it away, then have the brain wave to use it in a petrol strimmer.....NOT A GOOD IDEA.

the strimmer ran great until I added this poop to the little tank, it was miles more smokey and it stank.
    so the rest got binned.

If this was in a oil tank sitting in a boat I would of said it is water contamination thats got in naturally pulled in and made the good on the bottom of the tank.
But this was a sealed 1 gallon jug of mercury premium, the dark blue/green proper mercury oil ( says quicksilver on the can).

I have had plenty of other 2 stroke around thats been opened for a long time and not done this.

In future I will Always filter the oil, then youl know for sure if any lumps are in it, might even video opening it and pouring it so if it happens merc get it back.
and yes the price of 2 stroke oil is a joke. over here we are paying £45 for 4 litre of premium plus, that is $59.45 us dollars right now.

Is it worth going out stealing 2 stroke oil ..£2,812.50 = $3715.31 per 250 litre drum ?
Mmmmm now where are my bolt cutters and drum trolley.

Weird thing is, I have bought old boats with full merc oil inj tanks and even 1/2 full prem plus jugs in them, with reg stickers that were 5 yrs and old and the oil was as good/clean as new. The stuff seems to be irregular and maybe that's because of the actual refiner they get it from. We know they don't make it. The prem plus has PTFE added to it, maybe it's the culprit causing the gelling and clumping. Too much ptfe and clumps, right amount no problems.

I'm thinking those are good answers, I think the sh*t that is separating is to protect the motors from rusting when sitting for extended times. The residue that plugs the in tank screen is like a glue and not very many chemicals will touch it. When broken down with solvents it drys kinda clear but has skinned over in the screen. (can see thru it but is sealed off)

I do believe it is our problem created by merc's oil blending peeps.

PTFE are microscopic teflon balls. Get between the metal parts and give reduction in friction. Merc will not give specs of it's oils on how much or what, but prem plus has the biggest additive package they offer. Slick 50 is an example of a PTFE additive.

yeah I remember slick 50 when that came out in the 1970's.. everyone either had Slick 50 stickers or STP stickers all over the place.

so it could be that separating, I know if you can get ptfe powder..

so is thing good for our motors to have the ptfe in the oil ? I have never realy looked into ptfe for an oil additive.
