Are you keeping the notch in the bottom or filling it in ?
I've been keeping up on this build. I had purchased a 22 Activator a few months back and are in the process of re-rigging the boat.
I ripped out every piece of wiring, B/S stereo unit and amp, replaced all wiring and installed a new stereo. Now I just have to re-finish the gear case and I should be in the water in a couple of weeks. Mine has the engine on a set back with no engine well.
I had my fuel tank bone dry, had the sender out, made sure it was clean. Figured it was a 63 or 70 gallon tank......Nope. Only took about 35 gallons.
Set up is a flat transom with a set back and a hydraulic transom mounted to that. For now, I have a 2.4 liter 200 on it with a Bobs low water pick up nose cone. I haven't had it in the water yet but if you want, I'll send you some pictures. Just I/M me your phone number.
Attachment 407542Same set up as this one. I don't know those boat this is, I uploaded a picture from this site.
We didn't talk about it too much. The notch measures about 7" and we are probably going with a 6 to 8 inch jackplate, depending on which engine we go with. So, that's about right for setback. If we filled it, we would be running more setback, you'd have more running surface, but I'm not sure it's worth it.
Other similar hulls with notches run really well.
That is keith's old boat he removed the notch.... ran better without it, not so sure about the notch is their to reduce set back... in theory yes
But there's more involved than that, set back is really about balance and where you want the running surface to be. More positive trim will also get you there but at the expense of forward thrust
Keith had 100's of hours of set up into that boat, some of his settings I would not agree with
He thought running on the last 6" of the bottom was faster , but in the end he did realize there has to be a happy medium
I know marked tried all different notch depths, If memory serves me keiths boat had like 12"
Unfortunately he's out of the game he really liked to record all or outings

Talking to Keith last summer I think he had his pad widened as well. At one point he was running 19” of setback. Not sure if he kept that set up after he filled in the notch. I’ll have to check my notes
Any progress on this project?
