It’s Surprising that they are still All wood. I have an 04 eagle xp the layup is terrible. The core for the liner was laid up with some kind of honeycomb cardboard. The holes cut for the drives were never sealed and the outside two stringers which hold the motor mounts didn’t have glass over the wood for the last 8-12” on the outside of the stringer. They did manage to gelcote and splatter Paint the bare wood.
Aren't Skaters still wood core?
Yep and my 24 has had the transom done. Its a 35 yr old boat and was built way better then the 15yr old eliminator.

This could be added to the Direct TV commercial right after the lady dumps the coffee all over herself "Balsa core YES, I love it"
Joe
I just bought a balsa cored boat. It's well sealed and in thirty years I will be 89.
Attachment 395918Its worth keeping an eye on the core (use an 1/8 inch drill and pull a few samples). You can resin the holes and seal them up in two seconds. We thought that this one was dry too. The biggest issue is letting it go. First the core turns to mush, then there is no structure between the inner and outer skin, then the outer starts to flop-the boat runs slower because the bottom isn't holding its shape and eventually the outer brakes and hydraulics the running surface off. The key is to catch it early because its like cancer... Blisters and the sound of dead spots are your first warning signs.
The video that I have wouldn't upload but when we stepped on the core, it shot fuel out of the little upper hole like a water balloon. My personal 24 skater has independent fuel tanks and very little balsa left in it anywhere because its not something that I care to deal with again. I hope I didn't slow it down too much-time will tell.
