10' cougar set up
Trying to get top speed of 35 mph! 1984 10' cougar cub step hull w/ 1969 merc 200 20hp, long shaft, 20" transom motor lifted 1" engine tilt 4th position {best speed} 1st run 25 mph 5800 rpm engine running ok but slightly rough. Replaced engine wiring, kill switch, plugs, points, set points & timing w/ dial indicator 180°, timing @ .300 full throttle & max @ .360 btdc. carb jet .071, adjusted throttle cam/linkages, using 100 octane fuel w/ quick silver syn oil, engine starting & running perfect now. Tried other props 2 blade brass15p would not plane off, 2 BL stnl 13p cupped slow plane 27 mph 4800 rpm, 3bl alum 13p 28 mph 5300 rpm. Any suggestions I want 35 mph.people say they hit low 30's w/o any effort.

I guessing the long shaft is the problem. I run a 25 HD Merc with a 15" lower that sits on the transom. If I remember correctly the hub should be even with the sponsons. Go to little boats under 20 there are a lot of guys there posting there cubs .Mine is hanging from the rafters in my garage been 25 years since it seen water lol.
