It depends on what year 150. The 150’s came in 2.0, 2.4, and 2.5L sizes. The XR2 is a 2.0L that was sold for a coupla three years in the late 80’s. Compared to a 150 black max 2.0L of the same vintage the XR2 came with a few upgrades; bigger carbs, better tuner and plate, and a few other doo dads. The XR2 made around 160hp maybe a bit more. I had a 2.0L that I ran for one year, great motor. I still have an XR2 I have yet to run
xr2 had the 200 tuner and larger carbs, great little motors.
XR6 was a 2.5L, XR2 was a 2L. More cubes meant more torque. The XR2 had the standard gear case, 2:1 gears. The XR6 could have the standard gear case with 1.87 gears, or the smaller 4.25” gear case with 1.78 gears.
Probably wrong, but didn't the XR bass motors come with a timing adv. box that gave a few degrees more above 5700-5800 rpms?
I had an XR4. It had a timing box that retarded the timing to limit HP. I don’t know if the XR6 was the same. If it matters, the XR4 was 2.4L
XR2’s sound nasty, one of the meaner sounding stock fishin motors
When I had my XR4 on my SS2000, it would not pull more then 6000 rpm, even with a 24” prop
It was possible to remove the timing box and get more rpm out of an XR4. Was the XR6 the same?
after lookin' inside tha xr4 block decided it wouldn't be worth it... had a coupla "switch box" xr6's that could easily turn up 65/6800 plus (whatever tha stock portin' would give up).. lite weight boat, little prop, 2 ta one's and jacked up a bunch..
