Thinking of moving to Tennessee

I was telling my wife about the Jasper races and the river run that goes along with it, and maybe hauling up this year for a fun trip. We then started talking a little bit about the chance of relocating. I have 22 yrs in the automotive world, Parts Director, Fixed Operations Director, and my wife is finishing school to become a CPA, along with having a 4yr daughter. We sold our home 8 months ago and we have been living at one of her mothers properties waiting for the housing market to slow down, which it has not! Maybe this is our chance to leave though.
We were looking at Knoxville? Maybe some little towns around Knoxville? Maybe somewhere else? Anybody have anymore info, as in, "hell no, don't come here" or?? There are a decent amount of positions open it looks like in some fairly nice dealerships.

Charli That area is Beautiful. Traffic on I 75 to I24 Exchange between Knoxville and Chattanooga can be beyond Nerve racking Though. As far as Jasper race. There is No More Jasper or Jasper River Run . That Race has been moved to a Park just outside Chattanooga. Hamilton county tenn. Chester frost park.

...i may be mistaken, but i just saw on some national news regarding the current flux of everyone moving from california, the southwest states, new york, jersey, etc., that the number one state that everyone is moving TO...is tennessee. second most popular state being texas, third being florida. i was kind of surprised to hear tennessee as the number one destination. as i said though, i could be off on this...

TN. and Eastern KY are absolutely beautiful but it gets cold four months of the year. The river runs through Chattanooga and there are some beautiful homes and a nice downtown river front as well. If you have never been to Nashville, it is something to see and experience "talk about an area being on fire with growth-the construction is incredible".

TN is on my radar - no question. I've only driven through the State, but it sure sounds good. Beautiful lakes and roads. Warm weather. No State income tax ( or soon to be no State income tax ). Bonus - the home of Allison !!!!!

I saw that too, but I guess I was mainly asking about that area of Tennessee. It seems like everywhere is booming. Thank you!

Im sure the river run will be a thing. I know at least a dozen boats ready to roll this year. Its not that far to Shellmound by road. Tbe turn out boats last year was massive.

30 years ago I worked for an auto parts company with an office in Michigan and a facility in Knoxville. Knoxville was seen as the promised land. Maybe it still is

I lived in middle TN for 12 years and loved it!!! No state income tax, low property taxes, pro 2A, amazing fishing and boating, fall is stunning.

Been living in Middle Tennessee since 2000. Love it here. We have all 4 legit seasons. Mostly conservative politics other than in the major cities... The down side is if you have allergies get ready... pollen gets insane here in the spring and fall. In the summer the heat coupled with the humidity gets pretty intense.

The place is growing like a weed in population so traffic and property values are going through the roof... I just hope all of the people moving here to escape oppressive taxes and regulations remember not to vote for the things they are running from.

OMG! I had totally forgotten about the cottonwood trees in April and May. Suicide was almost a serious option until I got on Zyrtec! lol

im planning my escape from new jersey. south carolina, and east Tennessee are high on my list.

Where do Tennesseans go to when on vacation —"Redneck Rivera."
The panhandle of Florida has been called Redneck Rivera, because that is where Alabamians and Tennesseans go on vacation.

If you like all year round water sports (boating, fishing, skiing, and diving), then the Florida panhandle should be on your list of locations to settle in. The intercoastal waterway connects all the big bays from Panama City to Mobile Alabama. I would suggest Pensacola as a consideration for your family. However the panhandle only has small hills and no mountains. And the winters will have a few days of freezing weather. The gulf is warm clear water with white sand beaches.

No state taxes in Florida too.

This is accurate. I live in TN and regularly vacation in the panhandle of FL. Also the FL keys. The only thing about the panhandle is that if you are looking to have a career... my uneducated opinion formulated from driving through these areas is that.. outside of the tourist trap coastal cities, the panhandle seems to lack economic opportunity compared to Middle Tennessee. Looks like a comparatively impoverished area... Again, I do not know this to be fact, but that's what it looks like driving through.

The thing that bugs me about Fla is the lack of topography. I have done 6 years there in the armpit of orlando..but my heart lies here.Attachment 486828

Tennessee is old Indian word for long rainy no sunshine winters!! Moved there (Cleveland just east of jasper) from south fl 52 days straight with no sunshine!!

Winter is the rainy season for sure... My yard stays saturated until late spring every year, it does kinda suck

I love boating but I'm also a 2 wheel lover. Crossing the lower Blue Ridge north of Dahlonega GA on Hwy 60 and into southern TN is one of my favorite rides ever. Hell with the Dragon and the traffic. I've ridden north on 60 across the range and back across on 19 and not seen a dozen cars all day. Beautiful loop. This is in my top 3 places to retire which isn't all that far off ;)

The area where Georgia, NC and Tennessee meet is beautiful for motorcycling, not crowded, and property seems reasonable.
