SWEET with your experience, this will a good comparison .
I'll take a 300xs off and put the 300R on. It will be an exact comparison other than props.
Will this have the 1.75 gear set?
lottery time, how much slower...
5mph
I don't know why they don't just give you one and you can keep it as long as you write a review. Ain't that how it works?
So you'll prop to equal any difference in ratios
Don't break it
Yes it has the 1.75 gears, but it will work on the 21. Topend on the 21 with a 300xs was always 103-105 as of 3 years ago. Since then, it seems to be 100-101. Mercury says they did not change anything, but the weight, prop, setup, etc is exactly the same. I'm hoping the boat will pick up about 4 mph based on a couple other boats I know of running the V8's. The 300R is about 3K more than the 300xs. I hope it's worth it, but then again, we have no other choice! I will be running a variety of 32" and 34" props.
If you have time give a few more details like top, mid range, off idle punch. MPG if you can cruise it
How would a new G2 300 do ?
Does the g2 come with a surfacing gearcase?
I don't believe the G2 has a surfacing case. Also, I'm not going for the
FUGLEY club look. Those things are so ugly, I would not rig one if it was free! (Well, maybe if it was free)
Played with plastic Army men, Lincoln logs, Vacuforms, and erector sets.
No matchbox toys?
Matchbox, Johnny Lightning, Hot Wheels, Tyco, Aurora, HO scale trains, all in my life.
This thread needs some pics and vids for us dreamers
I reckon they should be a flat 8 not v8 then you wouldnt need those long looking jap inlets and the 120 degree turn the air makes to get into the engine.
Then plenty of room for the blower
Me thinks you protest too much
I'm not one who would have followed Jim Jones nor was Mr K or Charlie Strang etc but to put a car engine on an outboard ( Merc just following the herd) its a bit follow the leader, whats the big deal, its black and the same HP as a 1985 v8 OMC and close to the same weight
I too thought the G2 was a bit odd till I saw the new Mercs.......now the G2 looks great IMO. The new Merc looks like a ugly G2. I sho hope that BRP makes a lighter version of it in the future in case my old Merc detonates.

Not sure where you are getting the car engine that weighs approx. 350lbs. and makes over 300 hp with all of this technology "that you referred to" but I hope you are able to bring it to the market like Mercury has theirs. This is not a small deal and they have 10s of thousands of hours in creating this lightweight package. I have a couple ordered and am only interested in hearing the negative comments from people that really know. You sound like me back when Yamaha came out with the first YZ 400 four stroke motocross bike and l was soon proven to be a fool for my predictions.

when are you going to try a ''7'' ??:reddevil:
Lighter than any other 4s 300, equivalent weight to outgoing 2s, more torque, better manners all around, should be more reliable and longer lasting (unless merc botched the design or manufacturing), probably more powerful (why else would the 300r have different cams and intake from 300?), 87 octane fuel, v8 sound, etc...
Light, fast , torque, offshore clamp assy., sportmaster case, quad cam variable valve timing, efficiency, sound, displacement, future opportunities for more power etc., etc, etc, All the same reasons we like the new LS platforms and the Ford 5.0 Vs. the old small block stroker motors that you had to build.
