For those of you that are not on Facebook here are the pictures of Greg Keeling's blow-over at Jasper. First thing- Greg is ok, broken collar bone and little beat up but OK. Greg is a member here on the board so maybe he will chime in here with his perspective of the events. From reading what Rob(RBT here on S&F) wrote, it seems that the up trim solenoid welded itself internally and the motor trimmed to full up causing the boat to catch some air.
amazing. The pic with his ball cap, shoe and boat weight all still in the air is unreal.

Did he get his ball cap back? I've lost a lot of favorite ball caps while boating....... Man that was a rough ride..... glad he's alright....speedy recovery hopefully.

Ok. Folks here it is. From a data standpoint. The anatomy of a crash!
First the details of flight, the boat left the water at 669 feet into the run at a speed of 96.8 mph and 10543 rpm. The boat gained 4 meters in altitude(hair over 13 feet) and traveled 207.75 feet before its final abrupt stop. The speed dropped 21.6 mph in the air and landed at 74.8 mph with a force of 9.79 g. The motor peaked at 12456 rpm
The first kiss on the bow was with a force of 4.98g.
The evidence suggests at 383 feet into the run the 12v trim stuck open and trimmed the motor to the mechanical limit.
Not sure that anyone has ever crashed a drag boat and been able to recover the data. But that is what I can see

I was thinking the same ..I hear the same thing happen over and over ,,,mabe a safety strap !!!! easy to do.
Collaring the trim ram internally to prevent over trimming is the best answer IMO. There's a little work in doing it. Need to know your trim angle running and do some measuring to get the collar right
How about an ignition shut off (or limp mode) when the trim passes a set point? Could be easy to fab. Just a thought. GaryQuote:

Limiting the trim mechanically is a good safety precaution for most situations but that alone can't prevent accidents like this one. You have to have enough trim travel to run in a tail wind situation and unfortunately thats just enough to cause a problem with a head wind or cross wind.
2 heavy duty Solenoids wired in series for up trim + Limited Mechanical Trim range is the best solution for preventing stuck solenoid issues IMO. I didn't come up with either of these ideas.....just things I've learned from other people over the last couple of years. Nothing is 100% but this gets you about as close as possible.
I wonder if people are putting 24v through 12v solenoids?
