Sorry for the neck breaking photos. I have been asked about this engine lately and thought I would share since I had it apart putting Chris Carson reeds in it. Thank you Chris. I've been blessed for even owning this motor no sense in keeping it top secret. Hope you enjoy

Thanks! And yep it does alright for a white motor. Not as good as one of Dave Bush's v6 motors but still ok.

As far as I know, my buddy Jimmy Carter still has his, identical to that one, on his Pro Comp.
Crossflow carbs on a looper?

Carbs were specific for that engine. Float bowls were different and depending on generation different main body casting. They do use crossflow rod bearings. Also had 2 different exhaust style on the carb version. Tim these are a conventional finger port design intake.
Fred I have 6 new carb style rods if you need any.
Domed Pistons and bridged exhaust. I didn't see that coming. Similar dome to an Etec piston except it's tiny.
Crossflow ow starter works good on Yamaha ignition also and its lighter :D

Thanks racer for the letting me know, it's always good to know where these limited parts are. Thanks Kevin for straightening the pictures. The carbs are very similar to the crossflow 235. The starter is also crossflow, but it has a solenoid that holds the starter engaged so it can't kick out until you let go of the key.
Racer is also correct saying the bearings are crossflow on the wrist pin as well as the crank pin. Racer is also correct about the carbs being different as I have two sets. One being very close to the 235 style but stuffed from the factory and the other style is what I refer as front loader, but I don't know the proper name.
I use to see the F1's run in Pittsburg Pa, three rivers area, had to be the best racing I ever saw ...

Looks like the exhaust port is tapered also. I know square ports make power but the taper makes me feel like the rings r thanking me every time it fires up :D
im shocked it's got crossflow stuff in it. That era looper cranktrain is like a diesel.

The V8 race engine was developed before the production looper, the main reason for the crossflow bearing size is that the smaller crank pin has less bearing speed which increased durability at high rpm. Dome on piston is similar to the 60 degree carb engines with pin closer to dome as they run a longer rod than the 60 degree production engine. Same starter was also used on the triple c engines.
Fred the front load jet carb is first generation, the ones on the engine were much better around the corner. I had a set of each when we closed and sent them to Greg at Sea-way if you need any. I also sent him some ignition parts.
These engines also had 2 exhaust systems, the one on Fred's is the earlier design. The later EFI engines also had different rods. Were also produced in several displacements 3.0 and 3.5 being the most common.
The flatter the roof of the exhaust port the harder the hit when you reach the powerband a more rounded roof makes a smother transition / broader power band. You want to see extream example of straight across and huge width bridge port look at a Honda road racing 125 cylinder, the port is real close to 95% of the bore diameter.Quote:

Attachment 330873The frontAttachment 330873loaded carb has the same number also but I can assure you they are different. My guess is all of these 1 3/8" carb bodies were from the same mold but just machined differently. These have never been machined to accept "choke flappers"
Freddie is there just one main jet for both barrels ?

Attachment 330875I forgot who ask for this picture but here it is. And before comments are made that is klotz benol on the cylinder wall. Those who have run it before know what a mess it makes if you don't flush with conventional oil before storing.
Man those domes have a funny looking burn. Like the roofs are really flat.

does the have the allen head bolts on the side of the crankcase that must be holding something just beside the rod slot?
Racer tells me they are quite trick on the inside.
You are welcome and no sir not taking it all the way apart. Just cleaning things up.
This is an older engine and it has regular hex head bolts. I think the efi motor has Allen bolts
