If its rough 55-60 other wise 80 or so.
When I'm alone it 75-80+ because with the family I'm kept to around 60. I'm working on her though :)
100+ why own a hipo motor and not use it ;) besides I love the sound of a 280 at 8k+ rpm :D
Freeway speed feels like a relaxing cruising speed. Above that, in an open boat, it starts to feel like you are going fast...
I agree with Markus. Above 90 in the bass boat and your face tries to beat you to death.
Guess im not as fast as you guys, i typically cruise at 2500 RPM's, depending on the prop, no hurry to get anywhere, with the occasional rip in between.
No old lady or passengers 86 mph it gets 7 mpg at 4500 rpm range of around 200 miles.
With the girl friend 49.9 mph gets 5-6mpg. If u go 50 u get a flip flop to the back of the head
I just finished building a opti for my 23 proline. We put almost 50 miles on it last Sunday and she didn't complain once 28 mph cruise :p I doubt she will ever go on. The race boat again.
I dont really have problem with people wanting to ride in my boat for some reason lol....
In the Scarab, 50mph, 4400rpm cruise gets 1.05mpg.
In the STV, if there are other boats around, about 55-60mph (below the hop). If no other boats around, 85-90 (over the hop and aired out).
lets keep it at cruise not balls out we can start thread for that .
50 - 80 .
60.......one hand one wheel
Cougar likes 70, got some air under the hull and smooth's out the ride over rougher stuff!
4500 rpms pushes my tugboat 75 mph. it seems like 75 to 80 is the sweet spot.
BAJA gets good fuel milage around 45-50, Cougar likes 70.
Dave :)
Attachment 32087660-70 is a good cruise speed..
90-95mph@ 4500rpm depending on prop, fuel level, load, etc.
For me, 75 is over the hop, typically cruise there.
When I had my Vegas, I would always try to cruise around at 50+mph.....anything under that and the prop would slip enough that you would loose MPH, but the RPM would stay around the same. It was more efficient (GPM) running 60+ than it was running 30mph.
I like to cruise a little slower about 45-50. Then when those jet skis pull up next to me I have some fun with them
I tend to run at 35-3800 r's no matter what boat/motor or whatever speed that is. All my mercs just seem to be fairly efficient at or near this speed.. Every once in a while I will run a fast cruise at 4800 or so. I do very little wot time in any of my boats. The high level of concentration needed for hard running wears me out. I like to chill and enjoy the scenery a lil.
MY cruising speed depends on who I am cruising with ;)
80-90 @ 4,500-5,000 in my 28 (averages 3mpg) and 100-110 @ 4,000-4,400 in my 30 (averages 1.3mpg)
3500 rpm/ 35-40 mph most of the time, or whatever speed rides the smoothest with the given chop.. Typcally either a slow wave cutting cruise or full throttle which depending on setup can be much as 5-6 more mph without trouble \m/ \m/
in the skater I like around 85 to 100/ in the rocket 100 to 125 I have enough time to go slow when im dead /red rocket out
