Formula V races in Canada
I found this in reading the meeting notes for Canadian Boating Federation "Zone Ontario". Seems there were races to be had in 2005, but, no FV racers were informed.
2005 Annual CBF Convention
Zone Ontario Report
Although talks between Marty Broeders of the O.P.C division and zone Ontario were held earlier this year, several planned races by the O.P.C division did not materialize. Plans were made to include the Formula Vclass at Almonte, Sydenham and Deseronto regattas in 2005. All 3 Race Chairman’s were contacted and all of them were in agreement to include the Formula V Class at their regattas. The insurance company was called several times to ensure that their requirements would be met to include Formula V. A small
additional insurance cost of approximately $300.00 to $400.00 was required. The race clubs could not see their way clear to cover these additional insurance cost at this time. The driver’s fees and club memberships
are not set up for profit but rather to simply cover the cost of grass roots racing and keep this division as affordable as possible. But all would rework their financial plans if indeed Formula V returned to the circuit.
Past Chair Glen Stevenson then contacted Marty Broeders and informed him that Formula V would be included at 3 races for 2005 provided that, current CBF rules and safety procedures would be followed and the additional insurance costs be paid 45 days in advance of each race, the same as outboard and required by the current insurance company we use.
At this time we have not heard back from any representative at O.P.C.
As the zone committee has cleared the way and the insurance company is acceptable I think the O.P.C group should join one of the clubs this winter and work with that club to have their insurance cost included in the driver’s fees as is the case now.
Last CBF rules for Formula V
If? the meeting notes are correct and they are following the last CBF rules for Formula V then. [I have the rule book]
13 foot minimum length
Stock motors to 61.66 cu. inch
700 lb minimum weight
No cells
Your could join TORC [Toronto Outboard Racing Club] GOOD CLUB! NICE PEOPLE!
There's 10 to 20 boats in Ontario. Split the $300. to $400. dollars insurance
and it would not be too costly.
You could also allow 40 hp. motors in. That gets the younger people into racing while they are under 40 hp maximum restriction. Gives you a place to sell your old race boats. The boats should still run in the 50's with the 40 hp
and there are lots of cheap 40 hp Yamahas etc. around.
Six Mile Racers looks like a good opportunity for FUN!
