What is the farthest you have ever towed a boat ?

This New Yorker/Floridian only has 90 days left in his North West tree huggin hippie sentance before heading home....Only thing keeping me up at night is what to do with this stupid boat i like so damn much.I once trailered my Pro Street Ranger from Ohio,to New York,to Florida once...Which would not have been so bad if not for the tornados i drove through in the Carolina's that caused my dog to projectile vomit all over the back of my Excursion (this trip i will also have my dog riding tail gunner) ... At that point i gave up on long distance adventure towing....Yet find myself trying to talk myself into doing it again.What to do,what to do.

Repack/replace bearings, fresh tires or at least be sure max pressure, check lights, tow anywhere. I towed over 500 miles in one day this year already. Gotta watch those bearings though, Timken whenever possible, worth the $

I have bought several boats in Florida and live in central Illinois. We had one trip where we towed a boat and a 260 in a crate to New Hampshire and from there to North Carolina for a few days then to Florida to have Jack Barsch cut a transom on an STV and back to central Illinois. That trip was done in 8 days. We also towed to the Suwannie for the top end shoot out. I am too old for that stuff anymore.

Miami to Detroit straight through when I bought my center console. 4 new tires, two spares, jack, grease gun, rechargeable impact and miscellaneous hand tools. Oh, and about a half dozen Rockstar drinks.

That was almost inspiring Rock,tell ya got to the old part....I am still dealing with hitting 50,and i am not dealing well LOL

I can already see my life turning into a scene from The Jerk.

I have done the Ft Lauderdale to Toledo Oh run 8 times.Side note,i soooo miss Cedar Point,Put-in-Bay,Milan and Norwalk dragway....Oh,and Devils Lake : )

Good point, I did carry two spares along with a brand new hub assembly, grease, tools, jack, etc. I always have tools though so I kind of take that for granted

50? 50? You think that is old? Just wait. If I had a boat I like (I keep mine forever) , I would not hesitate to tow it across the country rather than start over. If you are the type that changes your boat every two years, then maybe it is time. I do like the idea of an already packed full hub so you don't have to mess with changing a set of bearings on the road--though if they are new and in good shape should be no issue.

Of course, you could always call Frank Mole'...

And you bring up the other part of my brain,it has me watching the market place cause i am driving cross country and can pick up a new to me boat along the way....Got my eye on a nice YT .... as far as 50 goes,that's old for me,seems like just last week i was in my 30's !

Picked up a Mirage Ski Racer. Drove from Greenville, SC to Oklahoma City and back. 2,000 miles with about 4.5 hours of sleep in a parking lot in Oklahoma City. Solo...no other driver or passengers. What fun.

I just did one of my buy now think later moves. Bid on a boat Tuesday. Left Ft Pierce Fl Wed at 1pm. Arrived in Houston at 4am. Slept in truck for 3 hours waiting for auction to open. Paid for boat then auction let me in yard to see what i bought. Boat was as good or better then i expected from the pics. Now here is where lack of planning starts to create problems. I knew boat did not have a trailer. I could have borrowed or bought a trailer in ft pierce. But my thinking was Houston is a big city and boat trailers would be easy to find new or used on the internet. I quickly learned Texas thinking is build boat trailers 1 at a time to fit boat. After finding Mcclain trailers in houston i did finally get a trailer. Surprisingly price was not the hurdle. Mclain was stuck on that build to fit policy but did give in and sell me a trailer. Now thursday at 3pm. Back to houston, load boat from styrofoam blocks onto trailer with no help from auction. Back on road to ft pierce. So at 6pm friday night i have a boat with no motor on a new trailer sitting in driveway. Attachment 411532Attachment 411533
