Drag racing - sandbar party - MI - July 14th
When: Saturday, July 14th 2012, all day long...
Where: Marble Lake, near Quincy MI.
Easy haul from Detroit, Northern Indiana or NW Ohio.
Drag races at the sandbar, bleachers set up for spectators, a LIVE BAND, and various "hot boat" contests.
This is the perfect location... the drag strip is tucked back back in a bay, situated between two long uninhabited islands, mostly protected from waves and boat traffic, with the finish buoy near the crowd for a good view. The drag races here are 100% legal, with permits and supervision by local law enforcement, keeping the course guarded from lake traffic. Boats used in the races do NOT need to conform to noise standards, as long as they are only used in the drags, and returned to the ramp at the end of the day. Outboards and big-blocks are both welcome to race. One of the islands has a big, sandy shallow sandbar with lots of spectator boat parking.
Aaron (hot-rod 21) and others have worked hard to make these race events possible on Friday nights for the past few years, and this Saturday event is an all-day deal. Come out and have a good time. I should be there to shoot photos.
The launch ramp is located on the East side of the lake... From US-12, take Ray Quincy road South to (R) Wildwood road West, the road ends at the launch ramp lot. Alternative launch site on First Lake (US-12 to Lake Blvd.) The site is easy to find, just look for the boats. ;)
