OMC control box apart. Trying to help a friend via phone and I have no knowledge of OMC stuff. He says he's taken every screw/bolt out possible and it wont come apart. He's trying to replace the cables. Thanx Scott

I find that a big hammer usually helps "persuade" OMC parts to cooperate. I had to whap the last one I took apart with a rubber mallet.
you got a pic of it from a manual to make sure he has all necessary bolts out?
What year? Old style red plug? I can probably find one.

BTW, I wasn't kidding about whappin it with a mallet.
Does he have the control box removed from the side of the boat? I am pretty sure there is some screws from the back side.
but i just found out its a flush mount. still need help.
it's been a few tears since I've had an oe box apart. the merc has the set screw on the bottom of the throttle lever. can't remember if omc has this. that's where I would look first.
Then it's a different box.... take a picture of it. Most likely, the handle will have to come off, then the outer cover then unbolt it and pull it through the hole.
If it's a top mount, then you will have to pull the 4 screws holding it in, pull it out of the hole and take the side cover off to access the cables.
If your buddy manages to get the thing apart without destroying it, a little silicone grease or never-seize at reassembly time might go a long way for the next lucky contestant...
that would be a good test for a guy applying for a riggin job in a shop. We use to send the guys in the bathroom to reload the handtowel dispenser. some guys were in there for a half hour or more.
