Thanks, yes a perfect bike ride Saturday. Well, its Fort Pierce City Marina. Freedom Boat Club invited me to a party.
Been a member for a few month now without using a boat yet.

Yes, this is from 1981 and Mercury made very good props. You needed to modify the rubber hub to solid. I dont think its a quicksilver cable steering. (Pretty pricey overseas) Teleflex in Sweden made a similar for a better deal.
Back then OMC did not have counter rotation as an option.
This was also the first year for the 2.6 liter cross-flow V6. (235 only)
I sold a ton of them.

We never sold any counter rotations without reverse. Maybe some aftermarket stuff/or Second Effort 1983 and later.
The first counter rotations we OMC dealers could order was 1985. The one when the powerhead was run counter and a new gear set/drive shaft and much more. (Looper V6/V8 only). Took forever to turn a standard to counter. Lots of problems and finally we got the real counter rotation gearcases from OMC a year or two later.
We did many counter like that and I think the V8 was running smoother the other way but a terrible kit. Many hours to install and it did not fit so good.
Extremly hard to get parts for. That stupid cable around the powerhead was a disaster.
Nope, we stopped installing them.
Well 1985/86 and 1987 OMC sold a counter rotation kit for the V8.
Second Effort sold engines they installed the kit but Limited Edition model and cost way more money.
1988 was the first year for factory counter rotation from OMC.
Finally the new gear case was available
First picture the kit, second the new gear case 1988.

Well..yes but very few new larger outboards are sold by dealers today. New outboards are mostly sold by boat factories under long contracts.
Outboard dealers can only sell to the re-power market.
I got the first counter V6 lower made in 1980, it was as mentioned a forward neutral only. Here in the USA the first 160 inch 235 was 1980 not 81
First, yes you are right..1980 not 1981 for the thin sleeves. Thanks for correcting me. We had a lot of problems with the early 2.6 cross-flow. Cracked sleeves/blocks.
Well.. never heard of a counter rotation production cross-flow V6 gearcase from OMC with no reverse. No way you could sell that in duel installation over in Europe.
Did really OMC build/sell that??
Pretty nice.
Thank you Graham Fralick Flyer Race Boats

I recall this as well. Also, OMC here in the U.S., because they wanted to be the first, advertised for over two years prior, that they had a full gearshift counter rotation V-6 gearcase available, AND...VRO oil-injection available then...and they did NOT. This was about the same timeframe...1980ish. In about 1982, they gave me a part number for a new 25'' left-hand gearcase, for a customers new boat. Got it, installed it & it blew up.
