John, you made a beautiful job of the boat, the fact you got steering in it at all is a credit to you ?
Who rattled your cage this morning Rich ?
Just landed on Curaçao where they have free WiFi otherwise you would not have heard from me over the next two weeks------some may say "Blessed relief".
If I wanted connection to the dot-dot, it would have cost me $60 per day-----who the hell do they think I am -----ROCKERFELLER----?
Do love the I pad , but not to the tune of $60 per day.
My hands are lily white and soft as a baby's bum------they're also seizing up through lack of use, but I am enjoying the trip!
Happy Birthday Jackie!! We are NOW the SAME age!!
Morning people, just arrived in Antigua------bit of a dump, but hey who cares, we got the dot dot for just $10 an hour-----been pigging out for ten days and got the waistline to prove it.
Many thanks to all those people who sent me birthday greetings 74 in all, you will always be senior to me Gene------will get. Around to replying to one and all soon as we return!
Now in St Maarten------last stop before heading back home.
All cruised out. Can't believe how much I've drunk and Easton over the last two weeks, may have to jog the 25m. To the shop for a while, just to burn off the calories.
Do miss chatting to you guys on a daily basis-----love you all in bunches, but not to the tune of sixty bucks a day. ,!!
Morning people, normal service will be resumed later in the day------been a horrendous few days, got an "ILIAD" to tell you-----spent the last two hours trying to get reinstated at S &F.
never ever leave your vehicle in the long term car park directly under the flight path---------planes coming in under 50' trigger the alarm.
Would be nice if someone had informed me of this fact earlier-----but with an income of $2,000,000 per week-----WHY BOTHER. TBC.
Insanity reigns once more------finally made it home-----Sunday was a "forever" day.
Boat docked at 6am, we had to be off the vessel by 9am-----our flight out of there was 9pm.
Brand fire new all singing and dancing Double Decker Air Bus 380-----still felt like a Gypsy Moth at 50,000' said something about turbulence -------always thought that was when you belched a lot !
Arrived Heathrow at 10am, just one slight problem, doors on the luggage compartment were in lockdown ------it took em all of two hours to find the key!!
By now I'm tired and well pissed at the world.
Arrived at the long term car park only to find the battery on the trusty Lexus was flat as a witches tit.
Called the car park office, told them the problem----voice from the Punjab told me not to worry sir we will be with you within the hour!
Little chap from Lithuania arrived with a set of jump leads and a rapid charge/starter device, somewhere along the way he flashed across the terminals-------that's when the problem started!
If you ever want a bill for over $3,000----- all you got to do on any modern jam jar is flash the terminals.?.???
First thing that does is fry the fuse box , burn out the regulator, barbecue the alternator
Not to worry-----we are AA members------they can fix everything -------get you home------ERR ! !only if you have the top of the range with all the bells and whistle add ons, that costs damn near as much as the trusty Lexus.
The call out and get you home cost $350. Car hire for a Barbie Doll Pram type $200
estimate for alternator $1200' fuse box and regulator $1250-----these are just " GUESSTIMATES"
Arrived at the house a tad after 7 pm-----I have had better days?
Jackie - Glad you are back home and in such a good mood. We all love you anyway. - PBS
Saga is over-----life's back on an even keel-----Trusty Lexus back to full working order and parked outside the workshop.
Promise never to mention incident ever again-----end of, (as they say)
Had a good day in the shop------making a triple axle, stainless trailer for the next project, will keep you informed------must be jet lagged or something, anyway I'm knackered, night all, MYGGWY .J.
Morning all, was bloody Thursday yesterday , rent day as my sainted MA used to say------never made the car boot sale.
All systems go today------bright eyed and bushy tailed -------as they say, (whoever the hell "They" are).
Her who shall be obeyed at a butterfly farm in the Carribean .
Jackie welcome back.. I have to say I bought a Lexus on the strength or your say so... but umm! Anyways I have just been thumbing thro' a 74 Windermere programme and you are down as a 5litre Ford in Jones hull could you tell us the history? Phill.
Simples! As the Meercat . Com says
remember Bill Brown, (Billy Two Rivets), he was running an inboard Ford 1600-- but without much success.
He talked about putting a two litre BDA into something!
He would provide the motor if I did the rest. New Miles, rigged, ready to run complete with Zed Leg!
Flew over to Oshberg -------GG sold me a Jones KT complete with a Keith Black Ford, trailer, cover etc. All ready to go for the princely sum of $3,000.
No matter what we did to that rig, it refused to run even 70 mph. A half decent Levi could do that with a full payload.
We only ran it twice, once at Chase and again at Windermere .
Intended to strip all the gear out of it and burn the hull but my mechanic Chas Shooter offered me a big bag of gold------he was deep into racing Range Rovers in OFF-ROADING ------he just wanted the V8 Keith Black lump to stitch into his off-roader . The rest is history.
Chas did race it in the first Thames race------the destruction derby------the boom across the Thames let go at the two hour mark, ,Twas said a good logger could walk across the Thames on the debris.Saw a dead donkey float on by !
I saw Chas being towed in by one of the rescue boats and asked what stopped you?
Chas-------a door handle !
Jack-------was that all ?
Chas-------Was attached to a door !
Jack--------That all ?
Chas--------Was still fixed to this damn shed !
Peter Inward was declared the winner in a Hodges/Mariner------think it was 1972/3
There you have it Phill.
Good story, sends all to bed with a smile on our faces......just as it should be....Thanks J.W.
Thanks Ron, love to start and end the day with a good tale or two. Mostly I try to keep to a boating theme, but sometimes I take you on a ramble. It just happens that way.
not a lot of time spare this morning, need to make a trip to the recycling facility ( scrapyard), need to construct a third axle for the trailer-------could make it out of brass, but this one has to be a bit special, so best I keep them all the same.
Made a couple of spare wheels-------eight wheels in all------not just plain and simple either------these wheels were meant for rolling, and that's just what they'll do----and one of these days those wheels will walk all over you ----------BOOM BOOM. It's the way I tell 'em.
Have a great weekend peeps.
Got all the alloy rods and enough half inch plate to make twenty gearcases and a dozen axles and ten sets of wheels plus all the angle for another ten trailers and much much more.
I got orders for a pair of V8s and an offshore rig with ARNESONS-------a 1950s blown hydro plus finishing a couple of concepts I started and left half done.
Upshot of all this is, I need to get a wriggle on and I'm up to my fetlocks in projects and concepts.
Went to Jillys granddaughters first birthday this afternoon----was held at Shorehams Lifeboat station where her dad Keith is the engineer.
We have all Ivans kids and wife kate staying with us for the weekend-----makes for a real pleasant change.
Got a full day in the shop tomorrow so should make big inroads into outstanding projects.
Will be back to normal by Monday .
Changed six light tubes and starters this morning ------if another one blew I was down to candle power!

Last. Night the house was alive again------kids rolling about on the lounge floor------a pair of brown Labradors cooking in front of a log fire------stinking to high heaven after they had been swimming in the English Channel.
Got a right Royal rollicking from Jilly------was trying to show Lucas (5 year old) how hot the wood stove was by spitting on it and making it sizzle------he thought that was wonderful and spent the evening chucking mouthfulls of spittle at the stove.
Most poignant moment was when the boy sat on Kate's lap and said " Mummy, can't we get a policeman to go and find daddy" ? Such are the wonderful workings of a child's mind !
Point I was making, the house is back to normal, but it takes a bunch of kids, two dogs and people to bring it back to life and lose the shadow that's been hanging over it for the last year.
Her who shall be obeyed has just called breakfast------sounds like bloody pandemonium in the kitchen. Happy days !!!
Had to log in again--------why-------Tried to log on but was told to " Sign In"
Afraid we still got a glitch on the site Greg!
Looks like the fall meeting in Tavares is on at the same time as the offshore meeting in Key West.
What the hell part of boat meetings "Organisers" don't understand !?
i can name ten people who will attend Key West over Tavares, eight are part of my own family.
Surely it can't be too difficult to organise two meetings that don't clash in November -------one week either way and everyone's happy!
Hi Jackie,
It's not a glitch with the site - when you're logging in, make sure that you're checking the box that says "remember me" next to where you type in your name. Also, if you are using any sort of internet cookie-blocking utilities like McAfee or Norton, that could very well be blocking the login cookie that is required to keep you logged in here.
Let me know if I can help - just email, text, call, or PM me here and I am happy to help you :)
Look below - make sure that box with the arrow pointing to it is checked when you're logging in. If it's not, the site will automatically log you out when you close the session. That is a security preference option.

Right then, that's me told.
As far as I know I don't have any Norton anti virus anything and the closest thing I remember to McFee comes fresh out of "back to the future" (part two) or was that McFly. . Told you the memory's shot to ermintrude !
Been a hit and miss sort of day-----house full of folk------all stayed until gone midday------ then it was time for a nap.
Got into the shop a little after three, but lacking enthusiasm and conviction , never thought a triple axle trailer would take me a week--------shop was cold as charity with tools spread over five counties---------couldn't be arsed to work up a sweat. Spent a half hour cogitating ------then walked out and locked the door.
Temperatures dropping daily, looks like we're due to get some colonial snow on Wednesday -----sod that for a game of soldiers, may stay indoors, light the wood stove and play computers !
I did sort out a nice chunk of Holly to make the hull for the V bottom to fit on the three axles, sawed all the burrs off'n it so it's ready to attack once the trailers complete?
Time for ZUZZEZ, I'm rambling again, MYGGWY .J.
Did you see that "WHINGING WILLABEE" is doing his bum kissing best to get the "Hot Singles" and "Hot Multis" elevated to "STICKIES"--------try getting carpet burns on your knees and calling Mr. Admin, Sir Greg.
Just had another looksee this morning and Bugger me if the old creep hasn't got 'em STICKIED, ----MAYBE--------you should get the handle changed to "WHEEDLING AND WHINGING WILLABEE"
Just joshing William, Hot Singles must be the biggest ever hit on S&F and I've watched it gallop away with the numbers, if memory serves me, I did congratulate you on hitting the quarter million mark------just in front of Seeroy's "Lake X" thread.
Suppose I should congratulate you on getting to be sticky, but I won't ' cos I always knew you were
"Creepy Crew Chief From Columbus Ohio"!
Time I was up and running------got a triple axle trailer to terminate today !
Who ??? Me !!!! I don't do nice Willa, I was trying to elucidate the finer points of the English language-------way deeper than "cat and mat-----dog and wog, Jack and Jill" back almost to original dialect.
I'm considered to be something of an expert on Yorkshire dialect (my native tongue), when we next meet up I'll give you a demo of English as it should be spoken-------not the Oxford, BBC version !
Eg; Oxford English -----"Would you please open the door".
Purest Yorkshire --- ----"Wiltoppen door".
Its easy, uncomplicated, but difficult to the uninitiated ( if you get what I mean).
Soldiered on with the three axle------stitched on the mudguards-----mounted the winch post, twisted up the pulley, cobbled the tyres on to the two spare wheels and bolted the wheels to the chassis. Must be slowing down quickly------took me a full week to finish the damn thing, just have to fit the tow bar, found a rose joint that will do nicely. Almost forgot the jockey wheel, even managed to fit a bearing in that too.
Have to confess-----the device does glide along smoothly
Did manage to rough out some sort of shape for the hull, just got to figure out the steps, the ARNESONS , trim tabs and props------pretty sure I'll get there sometime next week.
Its not looking pretty-----but it'll be alright on the night. ,!
Oh yes, the other thing is------if you want to read the "Tricks" thread scroll down to the bottom of the page , way down below all the Stickies.
Will have to show topless (and bottomless) ladies-------or tell some bloody good jokes before I get elevated into the sticky showcase. It's the only way I'm ever going to get a quarter million hits in under another year .
I could not whinge and creep my way up the ladder like the one who shall be nameless. j.
Good 'ole Greg at S&F, he finally managed to get all my posts together in one box (or did he ?)
Sorry Greg, just trying a "Willabee" on you, you know, the sneaky, whinging, whining, underhand, carpet burns on the knees sort of plea-bargaining and begging that you get from other authors on S&F.
It worked once, so I thought I might just throw you a curve and stand back, J.
Time to get out the spokeshave and make some inroads into the latest "Concept"----- one of the few times I get to use a bit of skill-------just love to hear and feel a sharp blade on wood------pure magic.
With a bit of luck, a touch of class, a nicely grained lump of holly, I hope the thing starts to come together in a rush. If it starts to look the biz I'll post a progress Piccie in the coming days, keep getting dopey ideas of imaginative maritime meanderings thanks to the Miami Show at the Marine stadium----------was some " far out " gear down there.
This won't get the baby a new pair of shoes------time to get out there and kill something (metaphorically speaking).
Little or no progress today-------I know the shape I want, but actually getting it right is proving laboriously slow--------hands are taking no notice of the signals the little grey cells are sending.
No cock ups yet--------but it's early days-------- will put the two steps on the bottom tomorrow, they have to be exact--------no room for error-------even on a concept.
Part timing tomorrow, can only play in the shop until 10:30 am as we are having lunch out with two very good friends of mine, Clive and Jane.
Wonder why I don't have the same clout as Willabee-------"Tricks" is dropping further down the pecking order and Greg the Admin didn't merge the two addresses .
You may have to go all the way down to page 2 before long !
Enough of all this, I'll talk to you in the morning MYGGWY .J.
Thought long and hard about how to construct the Vee bottom-------finally nailed it, if I think hard and long enough I can usually come up with the answer.
there were too many burrs and knots and crossgraining for the spokeshave to be effective, had to revert to the "Arbortech" --------it's a kind of ROTORY hand held chain saw, highly lethal but effective piece of kit.
Progress report the end of the week------slow going over the last ten days------not quite up to muster yet, arthritis and muscles are taking a battering, inactivity does nobody any favours !
Look out for more news tonight, J.
Only managed two hours this morning but I figure my friends are far more important than any "Concept"
Clive and Jane are wonderful people and I do not spend enough time with them, there is just not enough time to do all the things we would like to in our life, but we should never lose sight of the fact that people are more important than "Concepts".
There has to be a middle road somewhere where I can balance doing the things I like but never forgetting or spending time with the wonderful people I have met as I rush headlong down the expressway of life.
I must remember to stop and smell the roses occasionally and not rush headlong through life trying to get to the next place before I have remembered to enjoy the place I'm already at.
Enjoy what you already have, don't think the grass is always greener over the hill, enjoy where your at now , while you can.
Never made it back into the shop, neighbour Steve invited Jilly and I round for a Bon voyage drink, they're off to Barbados tomorrow. He got out a 25 year old Jura malt, your not getting much tonight.
Should get a full day in, no interruptions -------this latest job has to be absolutely "Spot On"-----will tell you why when it's all done and dusted.
Anyone know if the Caldwell V6 2:5 Billet race engine has ever run yet ?
Looks a bit "Brucatoish" to me, or have I missed something.
If there's ever going to be a cat in hells chance of getting numbers back into powerboat racing, there must be a formula.
Until that happens, there will be no revival
I don't care where you start------2 litres, 2.5----3 litres-----just don't leave it open ended, that killed off circuit racing last time around, we must not let it happen again.
they had a drag boat running a year ago.
There are some posts here.
Seems to be well short of any dyno data comparing anything IMHO?
I agree Jackie the wankers these days think the faster you go the better the racing so bigger and better engines each year and we know how that goes....
If you want to race engines go drag racing or dont call it boat racing
Morning Pilgrim, problem with boatracing authorities today is-------they never learned anything from the past------they do not listen to the actual racing fraternity------they KNOW what is best.
Cant see why caldwell would put out all the hype but no results, as my sainted mother used to say "PISS, OR GET OFFN THE POT" }
Lost this mornings soliloquy somewhere between have a good day and " post quick reply", just couldn't be arsed to try and rewrite the whole shebang.
Maybe Greg the Admin can tell me what I did wrong, I thought we went on to auto save after three lines but apparently not.
Relented and went to the Ford car boot sale, bought a couple of spokeshaves, I need those like a hole in the head (up to 16 now). Time to thin them out and just keep half a dozen.
Picked up a couple of Reebok skipping ropes, the neoprene ones, I can make a dozen tyres out of each one------gave £3 for the pair. Was bitterly cold, froze my nuts off walking round.
Did get three hours in the shop------Good day up to now.
Don't know if any of the old farts out there have noticed, but on two occasions I have been credited with 3,656 posts !------Greg the admin said he would have a look at joining ALL my posts together, maybe he's half way there, just have to wait and see.
Was having an early morning bitch, bemoaning the fact that Tavares and Key West have decided yet again to hold the November meetings on the same bloody days-----don't these people ever talk to each other ?
Been one of the most Unproductive weeks of my life, nothing "clicked"-----someone turned the gas down,----was cooking with candles !
As my sainted mother used to say, moaning doesn't help anyone. -------except the moaner.
Woke up to a white frost this morning, looks like a winter wonderland, got to be the coldest so far, Shan't be diving out from under the sheets in a hurry, I dislike being cold intensely .
Decided to paint the hull and the superstructure, but do a metal deck and walk around .
Have to redo the supports for the hull, it looks a bit like a pea on a drum, shoulda waited till the hull was finished, then again you grow old waiting. ,!
If I can tear myself out from under the sheets this morning I could get a good full day in the shop, out for dinner at "The Stag" in Balls Cross tonight with another old friend of ours, Penny Dorrington.
