The OMC FR 31M F3 race engine - 1988
My brother Lennart Ström raced/tested the first new F3 engine in Martinique late 1987/early 1988. There was some issues OMC corrected and this is/was an extremely good engine.
Here is a picture from Martinique and my brother Lennart in front (to the right) of his red Burgess boat with the first brand new FR 31M / F3 engine.

Another rare beast is about ready to go. Steve Larkin bought this from a guy in TX and I picked up the pieces at the Jasper TN ODBA event a few weeks ago. Still have some work to do on the ignition and fuel lines, but this definitely is going to be one great RS. First time I've seen a repro of the original RS decals (SR in Austrailia - lol - no rat **** here) AND it has the factory S/N - Model plate. Will be putting together 2-3 more when we can get the parts to my shop. Headed to Steve's before Tavares. I shudda had a V8!

WOW Roger,
This is great news.
Thanks for sharing and yes.. I shudda had a V8!..:iagree:
I have a feeling Steve Larkin is the man to get a V8 boat pretty soon.
I think this is from Parker Enduro 1977. Renato and Bob Hering's first win for OMC.
You can see Robert Hering in the cockpit, next to Renato and Jack Leek. Not sure about the other two.

That's a Flying Flipper with Johnson power, built in Finland designed by Swede Sigurd Isacsson.
I special order one 1985 and installed the two first production Evinrude V8 engines same year.
Pictures coming soon..!!
Hmmmmmm , stay tuned ..........
Here is the Flying Flipper I special order from the Flipper Boat factory in Finland early 1985 for the first production Evinrude V8 XP engines. OMC Waukegan shipped the very first by air to me in Sweden in time for a big event.
"The Stockholm F1-V8 GP 1985" and was used as a pace boat.
This boat got a lot of attention that summer. Nice and very powerful.

My friend Pelle Lindbergh (famous hockey goalie for Philadelphia Flyers #31) and me decided to race the offshore race Roslagsloppet same year with my Flying Flipper rigged with 2 X Evinrude V8 XP.
Sent an entry form to the race in Öregrund for the stock production class.
The race organizations answer was NO..our entry was not accepted.
I asked why because the year before a Flying Flipper with two Mariner V6 raced the same stock class..
The true answer was Mercury Outboards was the main sponsor of the race and forced us out..See attached decal for the race.
Too bad.. same old BS from Mercury.

There were a number of African-American tunnel boat racers in Maryland before that picture was taken, they just didn't make the big time like Art Jr did. Important to note that Art Jr was a second generation racer. His father before him was a successful boat racer as well, going way back.

This is Jimbo McConnell’s F1-V8 boat. My guess is in Pittsburgh 1982.
Not sure about the two sitting on Jimbo’s boat, but I have one more picture of the girl..:)
Pretty sure Cathy McConnell can help out
Thank you very much.

Cathy McConnell
LOL.......For sure the girl is NOT me. I don’t know her title but probably some Queen of the Festival. Her very tiny outfit was black, like Jimbo’s boat, so they matched. Lots of photos with her around our pits. Jimbo was sponsored by a local company, Giltspur, so they may have arranged for her to be there and mingle...
Nice hat..:)

Lars, MUCH better pictures than that Wilson character has been posting lately! :)
Dean Jenkins wrote this at FB,
Her name is Daphne, and he is Al. She was miss America and he was American water ski champion and evinrude dealer in Pittsburg. We spent a lot of time with them and they even came to watch us race in Paris. Lovely people. And yes a nice hat.
This one is maybe not as good as the Evinrude hat picture but a very nice man, and good friend.
