Hey, FUJIMO, if you take a peek on this old site tomorrow, you'll see I totally agree with you------don't do restorations, but I do like to "CONCEPTERCISE" which means I've got "Artists Licence" to virtually do what the hell I like-------Stavros is either going to laugh his socks off or Have a stroke when he sees the way I mutilated his beloved Pratt & Whitney R 23800-------even gave it eight blades of push-n-pull duo props---------how 'bout that for some lateral, longtitudal thinking ???
Strange to think I was there------- by that I mean looking at those piccies the first time around-------when most of those pictures on the Mercury thread were taken.
Still waiting for the famous Cypress Gardens skiing pyramid picture with Dick Pope junior--------Billy's wife Lynne is somewhere in that set up. ( I think) ----it's just a question of time before you get around to showing it.
I was around in the days of Bill Steele, Joe Swift, Kabasta, Dave Biers, Dick Schneider, , Willabee and Pruett, Alex ----Charlie and Anne Strang------Rolla, Cary, Radici, Wayne Vickers and Bill Sirois, not a lot of us left!
Time to pack the iPad, I'm rambling again----watch out for the bugs, MYGGWY.J.
Rent day again-------always seems to be Thursday-----always seems to be raining----just have to finish off the prop blades and then take a piccie or two.
Time to crack on------talk later.
Kinda slowed things down a tad when I put a four inch flap wheel through my left thumb, made me say "Oh Heck, Bother" and a few other choice expletives, was finishing the last of the eight blades, concentration went for a hike and the bastard bit me !!
Thats going to put Fifty Bucks on top of the asking price-------so I the piece is not together yet------could be late afternoon before I post a piccie, but I will, promise!

Well, there it is Stavros, for richer or poorer is it shed or Tavares bound ?
12 days and 50 hours------plus a very sore thumb (actually ground it back to the bone------did you know, bone is white?). .
The "THANG" is actually on the conservertoire table, along with the last couple of months work.
Jag concept and the Lembke project are Florida bound next week, so they're not going to make the shed .
Next few days is tidy up and clean up and unfinished concept days------have to leave the workshop looking shipshape and Bristol fashion--------reminds me of the reasons my sainted mother gave for having clean vest, shorts and pocket kerchief, IN CASE YOU GET RUN OVER BY A BUS !!!!!
WoW!!
Oh yes, I almost forgot --------12 CYLINDERS ARE LACKING SOMETHING-------' sorry 'bout that, it's the devil that gets into me! Ho-Ho-Ho!
It is official, you can do anything. Can you make a pig fly? :D
NO, NO, NO!!! Do not take that on as a challenge.
All the pressures gone, nothing urgent left to do. I know, it's self inflicted but like I said before------it keeps the little grey cells active and the Athritis at bay.
Anyway, you have to admit Fugimo's Mercury thread is top reading at the minute since Willabee hibernated his "Hot Singles" thread.
Found a Christmas card from Ted Boyd this morning----postman must have put it on the bench when I was out--------somehow it fell behind the South Bend, shows I haven't kept the shop clean for a while--------many thanks for the card Ted.
Not rambling tonight so have a goodnight and a great day tomorrow. MYGGWY. J.
How the hell do you manage to make your computer spit out large and clear pictures Gene ?
My granddaughter Casey says I take lousy piccies--------and should take more time on them, afraid I just point and click-------
Am about to take take out the back four blades------can't see the wood for the trees-----far too many blades---------they'll come in handy if I ever do another aircraft.
Just bought a Haynes book on the COSWORTH DFV-----some great pictures in that--------tempted to do a half decent "CONCEPT" of one. See how the next week goes!
Aw, C'mon Fuji, you gotta be kidding-------it's not a problem to build a LIBERTY engine-----I know exactly how I would do it------I don't have the time, or more important-----the inclination to make one.
Worse than that, her who shall be obeyed has flat refused to have any more "CONCEPTS" on the conservatoire table----------and I'm fast running out of space in the shed.
Takes me something like two weeks or fifty hours to do one of these things and about fifty bucks in materials and sanding discs and electricity so with the best will in the world even at old farts wages (5 bucks an hour) the price of these things is "OBSCENE". ($500).
Wait until I've had the sun on my back for a couple of weeks, then I can maybe work up a little enthusiasm, you caught me on a bad day!
Been looking through the "Liberty" engines-------thousands of them-------2,4,6,8,12 and 24 cylinders------seems like every USA car maker made versions of it at some time or another.
Nice simple agricultural design------if I get time this coming year Fuji I will have crack at one----just to show you I can.
Looks like your digging a hole for yourself Fuji------won't be long before some "blast from the past" puts a name to you------nosy buggers are asking for a name and a face!
I once asked you for a name but you were backward in coming forward so I didn't dwell on the matter. I know you're clever on the "Puter" and can access any photo library in the world----but I seem to feel you have a basic knowledge of early Mercury--------that would put you in the old farts category------Oshberg employee about or before the time of Odell and Gene ?
Beans will be spilled afore long------did you once piss someone off so bad you want to retain anonymity? Only time will tell.
Near finished the Lembke, weekend should cover it,
Foraging at the metal recycling facility in the morning.
Took the morning off and went to see my oldest friend Adam Laszczar, he turned 80 this month, really enjoyed a couple of hours with him. Nighty night, MYGGWY.j.
Weekend already, I'm one of the fortunates that it doesn't matter WHAT day of the week it is------they're not all the same, I just enjoy each and every one and try and wring every ounce out of every day. Your here just the once----make the most of it.
Grandson Gary's birthday yesterday----- strange to think that the guy who worked on my outboards------then the COSWORTH------then on my sons outboards-------then on my grandsons ILMOR FOUNTAIN is now helping Gary with his motors. That's forty years with the same family over three generations-----one of the few that I haven't pissed off yet.
Time for a forage at the scrap yard-----piccies later !
Attachment 334532Attachment 334533
The Big Bang! "The theory of everything"-------- I have no idea what this is--------or what it's purpose I see---- goes some 10/12 kilos. Looks to have a centrifugal type mechanism, beautif piece of kit.
One day , it will make part of a great "concept" ------having a mad fit of depression at the minute, even considered doing a "LIBERTY"-----We live in desperate times.!
"having a mad fit of depression at the minute"
Just a normal symptom of genius. I think that Iris and I will have a libation and a toast to you.
Morning Stavros, somebody puts up a picture and I immediately take it as a challenge-----like a fish to a lure------I was all engined out until Fuji came up with the Liberty-------picked up a block at the scrapyard-----cut it down to seven inches------turned up a dozen barrels------made 'em into a shallow V and I'm away with the mixer (that's an old building expression).
See what happens over the next week or so?
Genius I am not Steve, told you before, I have to keep the little grey cells active or the buggers would cart me off to a care and rest home for the elderly and insane, I've seen what happens to sixty year olds who retire early-------sit on their arses at home for two years, then have withdrawal systems-------turn up their toes-----get toasted and no one even remembers them !
I once had a "libation"------had it removed with acupuncture-----thought it was a tick!
Just kidding----give Iris a hug from me.
My friend Reed from S/F sent me this one-----thought I might share it with you all and it's a while since I sent you a funny------
John and Joe had been friends for years---- Joe said to John in strict confidence, I'm having an affair with the priests wife and she's "hot to trot"--- I have this Sunday morning free-----would you keep the priest occupied for a couple of hours. Joe didn't much like it. But reluctantly agreed.
Joe corners the priest and after ten minutes runs out of conversation------his holiness suspects somethings afoot and says ok Joe, tell me what's bothering you? Joe breaks down and tells the priest how his friend John is having it away with his wife!
Priest puts a friendly arm round Joe's shoulder and says gently, if I were you ----I would hurry home Joe, my wife died two years ago. .!!!
Not a bad way to start a Sunday. .??
For all of us OLD FARTSAttachment 334543
Hey Johnno, thought you were going to tell us whatever the atom splitter was or might be! It is one beautiful piece of engineering.?
Attachment 334544
Never did did get the Lembke concept quite right------Was sold anyway, guy wanted it "As is" I did try three different centre sections but none of them were spot on------I started out short and went steadily downhill-------may try again later this year!
Miserable sort of day--------constant rain but still very mild!
Had a long day in the shop-----a visit from my daughter Boo (Tracy) she's the schoolteacher who's always dominant so we usually wind up having a heated discussion. Hate people who try to tell me what to do!
Stavros, you've been around since Pontius was a a Pilate, long enough to remember most of the original Oshbergers, so who is FUJIMO .?
He might be good on a puter but no way did he get all the stuff out of the "dot-dot" . Most of the stuff he shows comes straight from the horse's mouth.
I reckon he pissed someone off so bad at some time, he don't want to be recognised.
Another nine days and I'm Florida bound. Tired, so I'm off to sleep, MYGGWY.J.
Jackie--FUJIMO showed some Liberty/Gar Wood pics. My favorite place to go in Tucson is the Pima Air Museum--go about once a month--if you decide to do the 'concept' I have history and pictures--
1917??? That's older than you or me!!!!
http://i68.tinypic.com/2chbchw.jpg
Am I that predictable Gene------or is it the fact the "old ones" are the smart ones with brain power the young can only wish they had !
Spent from dawn to dusk in the shop cobbling the first "Concept Liberty" motor, and yes, it is the Gar Wood lump at that.
Was going to keep it quiet------just in case I didn't get it finished before the cruise.
Dont Ya just love the name, "Lewis Spring and Axle Company" ONLY IN THE USA .!!!
So yes my friend, I could do with an overhead shot of the rocker gear on the Gar Wood motor. Any time soon, like yesterday will do, no urgency ?
Will do a "Progress piccy" , later in the day Gene.
Will do, Jackie. This is a 'cutaway' at Pima Air Museum, and way too much detail for a 'concept' But the engineering that went into this nearly 100 years ago is fascinating--30 degrees 'V' --gear driven overhead camshafts--lots of cast aluminum parts. I did a close up on one of the rocker covers--clearly shows 'Packard'.
25 years later (WWII), Packard was still doing the same thing--building 'Rolls Royce' engines for the P-51 and calling them Packard Rolls Royce--

thanks a lot Gene -----the cam gear piccie came out well pixilated-----put the fear of God up me-------never should have asked.
Im already well into a "Concept" version of it anyway, this will have to do as a first time effort.
Will send an end of the day progress piccie------see what you think!!!
Jackie - I have no idea who FUJIMO is
Attachment 334600Attachment 334601Attachment 334602
Its only a Bloody CONCEPT, ,!! Any comments???
The stand is the best bit Gene, found it in the scrap brass pile at the scrapyard on Saturday morning, very Captain Nimmo I thought !
It was all done in a bit of a rush so I could get the shop cleaned up, you know me, get an inkling, the gears click , head down , arse up-------can't be much good, it only took me two days------12 hours------weighty old lump though, I wouldn't like to pay postage to the next town even!
Sad to hear David Bowie turned his toes up-----not exactly my favourite but the kids loved him to bits-----made me wish I had gone to Art School . I couldn't draw or paint for toffee, I thought they only taught painting, never realised what ART meant until I was turned 75.
Off to lunch with Jill's brother David at the Carvery in Bramber tomorrow-----getting out and about a bit more.
Parcel came from Roger Hinsdale in the second post------haven't had time to open it, and to be honest about it , her indoors had tidied up-----and I didn't remember until I was in bed.
Look forward to opening the box at breakfast-------many thanks Roger, much appreciated----
Got the medical insurance certificate through-----cover starts next Wednesday for a year-----put a bloody great dent in the savings-------really am spending the kids inheritance-----liked doing it so much I upgraded to business class for good measure. That's what I call "Positive Thinking".
On the verge of rambling so I'll say goodnight to the people, MYGGWY.J.
Me,? Doing hidden-----whatever gave you that idea Rich, no doubt about it------I have the insurance, the permission of the kitchen goddess------all I need is a fair wind, good health, and I'll be at Tavares like a long dog! Probably taking the odd "Concept" or two for good measure.
Just a week tomorrow and this years adventures begin-----a Carribean cruise to kick off and a lake Garda trip later in the year. I'm sure Jilly has loads of fun planned!
Starting today, it's clean up time-----shops like a pig sty-----time to muck out!
Hey Gene, you think Rich is ok ?------hidden message "thst" you will be st off next year. We were talking Tavares THIS year weren't we. I been looking for Rich's hidden message-----have you cracked it yet ?
Does that mean that we have to GUM bananas to pulp -----so we just buy overripe ones we can Suck to death?
Roger, huge thank yous for those perfectly formed propellors----a work of art in themselves-----
just seen the PUGHIE on Facebook -----don't quite know what you did to it but it's a different animal to the one I sent you, the finish is remarkable-----it really does look "the biz".
I bow to your superior photographic talents ! Many thanks for making one of my "CONCEPTS" very acceptable.
If that means you still like it--------can I cash your Cheque now.?
Still need Rich To confirm he still likes the "CONCEPT" he commissioned me to do 15 months ago, only then will I cash his cheque.
Got a good morning in at the shop, started on the clean up, then spied the "THEORY OF EVERYTHING " looking neglected on the second bench------spent the next two hours making a suitable stand, which looks pretty amazing------once I've stitched it all together I'll post a piccie or two.
Did a bit more on the Liberty--------polished the mount------stuck the old motor on top------really does look pre--prohibition-----needs a few water ways and we'll soon be there.
So endeth the ramblings for today, get a good night in folks, I will. MYGGWY,J.
Yippee------I'm rich-----in friends and cash!

Does that mean that we have to GUM bananas to pulp -----so we just buy overripe ones we can Suck to death?

Sorry, Jackie---American humor???? I think George said is first, since green bananas usually ripen in three or four days--
“At my age, I don't even buy Green Bananas” – George Burns
I love colonial humour Gene-------my thinking had gone off the bubble-----won't happen again!
Bob Hope ,W.C. fields, George and Gracie, Abbot and Costello,Roseanne, Lucy, Rowan and Martin, some great humour has come out of the USA! With never a swear word needed.
Unfortunately you would be hard pushed today to find a film that didn't have foul language as the norm! God knows I'm not a prude, there's a time and place for everything and yes I would give up my seat for a lady , or an older person,(not many of those around today).
Attachment 334676Attachment 334677
This is is another of my crazy concepts-----the Swiss thingumyjig------ the Big Bang.
