How are you? How did the boat run with the 3-300XSs? LOL! The current owner has posted on this thread. Scroll through the whole thread and I am sure you will find it. Take care.
Thanks

Tx Cougar Dave
Thanks Dave! Photos are taken in our shop on the Sunshine Coast, runs really well seen 105 propped all wrong, started messing around with it again this season. Boat threw me out 4-5 years ago when the bottom skag broke at about 95, torn the wheel out of the dash! Mr Nass fixed the boat up like new! I will reply to your Pm and get my brother to post some pictures of his 96 sport skier with a blown 489.
Hey Cougar owners past and present. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I never got my Cougar in the water this summer unfortunately, as the re-do turned into a bigger project than I expected and with delays in getting parts and time to work on it. I am over half done and it will be ready for the spring of 2022. I never thought that this thread would grow as big as this has become but please keep posting any Cougars past and present and especially any winter projects that you can share.
Thanks again
Gary
Here's my 1987 cougar
I will try and get more pics of my cougar. For being a good marine technician and cougar lover I need to get better at understanding how to send pictures
Lol
Hope everyone is well.
I so appreciate so many from this forum, and ON this forum, as I have received a boatload of info from each. I come from the car World, and my hot rod currently is a 2012 C6 LS3 Corvette, modified and running on E85. It's 900HP at the crank, and has been bulletproof and doesn't have a single scratch on it, at ~36k.
I say that cuz I came here zero fast boat experience, but a conventional boater since a kid. This personal boat#10.
I came here not knowing jack, and I know almost enough to ask semi intelligent questions. I've done ~4 props, and have on order a Merc labbed prop (since Sept). Point is, the boat isn't the issue - it needs a driver "mod", just like the car to come even close to it's potential.
Seat time (alone), trying different props and trim, this thing is a quite a different animal (thank God for CA weather). For a 22', it does extremely well in a chop. But NOT big boat wakes (there are many 40'+ express cruisers and such running around in the Delta. If I avoid the surf-able wakes (to stay alive), I'm good...and they are sneakers. I've airborne - above the airborne boat - looking down at the helm as if I left my body. But I hadn't left my body. God placed me right back in the same seat. I was wearing a PFD, and the safety lan. It scared the F out of me...won't happen again, hopefully.
It can do well over 70MPH propped accordingly, but top speed is not my goal, anymore. I am aiming for an optimal cruise speed that won't grenade the BB too quickly. Started with a 5-blade (forget the pitch) I swapped that out for a 4-blade B1 26, to start. Then a 28 and 30, I have on order a labbed 29.
I love cruising at ~60, as there's more than 1,000 miles of waterways, in the CA Delta. The boat has been great, just trying to find a mechanic/shop I can trust.
I love this boat. Was going to mod the engine, or do O/B(s) on a platform, but that's not worth it. It's more boat than I can use, and to play with the big boys on the water, is well beyond what I want to spend.
I lucked out and store it in a covered garage, and have tractor service (included) for launching. I can drive the Vette to storage, ans swap boat for car, and leave with my fat ass in the same place it was when I left. No fenders, lines, launching required. They know my routine, and it's too easy. I'm blown away at lucky I am...in every way. Another day above ground, I'll take it.
Sorry to be so long winded, figured the thread slowed down, some aren't able to boat right now, and I wanted to update the change from my last post. Today I;m off to arrange to have my stereo installed. Like the Vette with a 240A alternator (for cooling mods), that will likely come later, too. Dang thing ain't even got a voltage meter! That will change with the stereo...

I just saw this boat posted for sale on craigslist in Northern California. I believe it was Redding CA. One of the Simion motorsports 300X's was removed and sold. Boat and remaining two motors only have 85 hours and boat looked brand new. They are the original owners according to listing. If you want me to I will try to find the ad and send you a PM.
Hello, I am looking for an MTR 22 OB only can be turnkey or with no power. If anyone has any leads it would be greatly appreciated. I will also post in Hulls wanted but thought you guys would be more likely to be in the know.
Thanks

Send a PM to Whytey on here. He had Bob Cruzes twin 280 22MTR but sold it to a neighbour. The last time I exchanged e-mails with him, the neighbour was selling it. It was listed on Kijiji for sale last fall but I don't know if it sold or not. I will check to see if I have a contact number for the seller at home if you are interested in it. To my knowledge, it was the only other twin 22MTR built and it was featured in Family and Performance Boat magazine. I posted the article at the beginning of this thread. Let me know.
Thanks
Gary
Good luck finding a 22 MTR OB Cougar,I have been looking for one for a couple years.I might have a 23 MTR Cougar twin 2.5 Jay Smith motors one for sale,Thanks Tim
Hydrogasm,
Thanks for the quick post. Since you are a resident do you have any idea how hard it is to get to the States from Canada? I am wondering with all that is going on. I know that most of the Cougars do seem to reside there, so best find out what's in store.
Crescentbar,
I know your pain. I see MTR 21's come up but not 22's. I really am stuck on a 22 and was looking at a 22 Daytona that came up on Facebook last night in Lake Havasu. It is a very nice looking boat but I am just steadfast on the Cougar. Good luck on your search!
No luck with a reply from Whytey, but that is all right I think I would rather go single OB power. Did some homework on what is required to get a boat across the border, so more comfortable with that now if one ever comes available. Thanks for the reply!

No problem. I will let you know if I see any for sale.
Thanks
Gary
In the old days I used to see Cougars at the Toronto boat show and in Hotboat. I never bought a Cougar (drank the Allison kool-aid) , but I always liked them. Hotboat's May 1998 issue compared three 21 tunnels with a 225 Promax, a 2.5L, and a 300 Promax.

In the January issue, Hotboat tested a 21 tunnel with a 225 Promax and was about 10 mph slower - 80 mph. 26 ET vs 30ET, and a Hotboat driver vs a Cougar owner driving.

Hi, I have a mint ondition Vhull classic built by Dave and Tom. I have had several conversation with Dave and knew his family. My fone is too ive ohhh ate zix tree ohhh tree tree zix. happy to talk cougar. Im a red seal marine tech for 20plus years and work in the Okanagan. There is nothing like a cougar. My boat was the brochure photo's. according to Dave there were only 7 built in 1987. Cheers
Cheers Dave. My sincere Thanks to you and Tom building the quality product we love.. We have spoke before and you cant even make this stuff up. My boat was on your brochure in 1987 and when it showed up in my small town Alta. It was the talk of the town. Little did I know that through my great friend I would hear tales of you and Tom. I brought Gary Cooper into Marine Tech and we lived together for many years. Your son and daughter were frequent guests at our house. Your son was probably the best natural skier i saw. Your daughter was well protected by her brother and his friends. Not that she needed any help. If you ever make your way to Lake Country I would love to meet you and talk. My boat will be in turtle bay along with the marina owner's. Couple rare Cougars nose to nose on lift's.
You mentioned your daughter lived close. Coffee, Food or a ride would be my pleasure.
You hopefully have my email still cell toofiveoh ate66tree zerotree tree 6
Cheers and TY
I received an Email this morning from Joe Naponiello (aka Crazyfish) that has sold the Cougar MTR 22 mold to someone in Texas. He was heading there this weekend to iron out some final details and would let me know who the buyer was when everything is completed. Will post when I know more!
Congrats on your sale! Knew that baby wouldn't last very long with the way prices are. See you now have a 21 for sale also a nice looking boat that should move quickly! Good luck!
