Over the years on S & F we have recognized Mr. Lanham as a man of many talents. However, several pictures have surfaced recently that clearly demonstrate painting numbers on the side of a race boat is not his strong suit! :D
You would be hard pressed to find anybody that does sign painting by hand anymore. All done by computer software and 2D plot cutters. Vinyl materials have been vastly improved too. Last time I saw pin striping by hand was at Big Dog Motorcycles inn Wichita KS in the 90's.

Hey Bill--does that Powerboat article show the Sunday result??
We loaded up Sunday afternoon--and drove non-stop back to Miami--
Seven days later-
The two hour race at the Marine Stadium--

...Ug! I have done that. From Manhattan Beach California to Ft. Lauderdale...driving non-stop with one other driver, Chevy crewcab dually, warmed over 454, larger extra fuel tank in bed with a fuel switching valve for fewer stops, towing a new large offshore boat. Think it was 48 hours of night & day of driving hell. Ah, to be young...(almost forgot...had to drive out there just as quick! Another 48!)
Seven days!! - Geez, if you drove a race boat like you drove your truck, you sure wouldn't need anything bigger than a shoe box for your trophies. :nonod:
Havasu 1969 - Sunday laps:
77 - Scotti
76 - Sanders
75 - Sherrer
74 - Sirois, Schulze, Eis
73 - Burnette
72 - McConnell, Craig
71 - Quayle, Allan
70 - Lanham, Posey
UHHHH___---
I didn't finish my story--
I had to be back at the Fire Station Wednesday morning--in the meantime---the APBA changed the way they numbered raceboats---
