Wow..I received this picture from Italy yesterday. Means a lot to me.
My first F1-OZ class race at Idroscalo, Italy in September 1978.
Its me and Renato Molinari in the two Saffa/Molinari OZ class boats.
Renato used #165 and Evinrude CCC V6 power. My #29 used a Johnson RS V6 racing outboard.
This was a race for me to get used to OZ class racing and prepare for the Paris 6 hour race in October 1978.
Me and my Racing Hero Renato in two Saffa boats cant get any better.
R.I.P. Renato. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e.../1/16/2764.pnghttps://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e.../1/16/2764.png
Thanks to "Archive Agazzi Claudio" for the picture.

Renato used Saffa as his main sponsor from 1977 to the end of 1979.
Yes, his Saffa paint job was extremely nice. Renato did not smoke, and I did never see him with a Saffa lighter.https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...1/16/1f600.png

@WaterZebra
Saffa Twin..!!
The "meanest, badest" UIM OZ class Saffa/Molinari ever.
Extremely fast but turning was one of many issues.
2 X Evinrude CCC 3 liter V6 727.
Idroscalo, Italy 1979.

Barry Woods showed up for a club race on the Willamette River in Portland OR once with his CCC powered Molinari to "test". He made all the local racers running Merc V6s look like they were crawling along. He took the entire river width bank to bank just to scrub off the speed from straight aways. At the time (1977) it was the fastest OMC tunnel I had ever seen until the V8s showed up nearly 10 years later.
Wasn’t Johnny 196 & Posey 197, both driving Johnson power. Nevertheless sometimes motor covers did get alternated to ensure equal balance Evinrude/Johnson, especially for factory & factory supported teams
I don’t recall that application as the golf car business was shut down & law suits started for “dumping” by a a competitor who was selling less then our manufactured costs. Then we shut down OMC Lincoln as Pioneer was sold & we again de-centralized. I did put together the Combo II GT golf car program. If I recall John, that there might have been a program to put the rotary in a Truckster. I believe by then the rotary was already in the snowmobile. Lawn Boy management moved back to Galesburg in the early 80’s. But , as I said, Cushman golf was no longer an entity by then.
The rotary golf cart was in the very early 70's. Cushman was using a 12HP B&S engine that put out around 9HP. They asked for a 15HP rotary. I detuned a S/N engine to an honest 15 HP. I was told the acceleration was beyond exhilarating, it was downright frightening. It would pick the front wheels off the ground if you nailed it. Anyway, Briggs didn't want to spend the money to develop a new engine and as you said, Cushman golf carts were on the way out.
Better get back to boats before Lars chimes in.
