Australian equivalent to the T850 boats powered by a stock Evinrude SST60 and current Australian 1250cc Mono Speed record holder at just under 82MPH set in 1996. Did 88MPH with the OMC Mod 50 gear. These boats currently run in the 850cc Mono Class in Queensland powered by the OMC 75hp Stingers.

Ben raced Merc V6 before he went to the V8 series and then went back to racing in Champ boat after the V8 series died.
@Mark Poole ModVP
Correct and Ben also raced a Yamaha V6 in the Champ/PROP series a few years.

Evinrude Powered FIERO BOATCAR
Powered by an Evinrude 50hp looper outboard, this “boatcar” is likely better as a boat than it was as a car. Those who remember this little mid-engine Pontiac will recall that the 1984 introduction year cars had a propensity to catch fire. By mid-1987, the 1984 Fieros were catching fire at a rate of about 20 per month. Its Iron Duke engine dated back to 1977 and wouldn't fit as it was, so a redesigned sump and oil pan were used but the dipstick wasn't changed so the oil level would appear to be normal when it was in fact a quart low. Now add to this, defective connecting rods that only exacerbated low engine oil levels, and fires would result. In addition, a wiring harness mounted just above the exhaust manifold was also given to melting and starting electrical fires, and improperly-tightened head bolts would also sometimes crack the block and start a fire.(The Iron Duke engine has been removed from the boatcar.)

Note that the Fiero in “standard trim” does not float!

My brother Lennart Ström raced/tested the first new F3 engine in Martinique late 1987/early 1988. There was some issues OMC corrected and this is/was an extremely good engine used in UIM F3 racing for many years.
