I saw Brian Dewey at a few European races in the early 1970's. I will share a couple of some of his photos, that survived the Ridgells move back to the states. And then did the circuitous travel from their Tennessee home, to eventually Roy's family home in Florida.Quote:

The black & white photo of Cees eventual flip is a Brian Dewey photo. I remember Brian and I talking about the first corner and first lap, before the start of the race. I mention you better be prepared, I knew it was going to be exciting, but I did not envision the poor circumstance for Cees vander Veldon.

This inside shot of the Mercury - Renato shop in Como Italy, is also a Brian Dewey photo. This is the bottom floor, where the rigging was done. Both these black & white Dewey photos were taken in 1973.

Boat 165 is Renato Molinari the eventual overall winner of this 1973 race in the Koblenz Germany area.
Boat 6 is Bob Spalding debut the T-3 engine, for the first time in a European race.
I personally fell a little guilty, when I look back on this photo.
The reason being, I was informed the trailing boat flipping is Bob Hering, and I did not remember this.
The other boat 139 is Cees vander Veldon, in the act of flipping. I helped Cees on shore from the rescue boat, and I remember he was not a happy camper. But Bob must have been brought back to shore, at a different location.
So that is why I feel guilty, like I might of slighted Bob, but I did not I just do not remember seeing him coming back to shore. And getting the opportunity to extend a hand, and welcome him safely back to Terra-firma.
