Hi John - Thanks for re-posting my message. I wrote it and then questioned why am I even wasting my time and deleted it. As I mentioned before, I tried to end this bickering years ago and everybody involved was agreeable, with the exception of Jackie Wilson. Unfortunately, what was once a very friendly, informative and productive site has been infected with the likes of Jackie Wilson. He always reminded me of woman going through menopause - always looking to pick a fight with someone for no reason. Yes, Lars is the only one keeping Outboard and Racing History alive. The comment about him featuring only himself in his pictures is childish. Lars was racing and his friends and team members took pictures of him racing. Not of the whole field, but of him. Those are the pictures that he retained and posts. However, if one goes back and looks at his posts, he posts far more pictures of other racers than he does of his own pictures. Lars used to also post a lot of Mercury pictures, but after constant attacks from across the pond, he stopped. Again, Lars is taking his own time to post all of these pictures. He does not get paid, but rather does it for the continuation of Outboard and Racing History. If Lars was from the Mercury camp and only posted Mercury racing pictures from the good old days, all of these Jackie Wilson followers would be hitting the "Thank you" and "Likes" button. But because he was from the OMC camp, they gang up on him. This whole feud between Mercury and OMC is so petty. The hull that racers raced were just as important as the engines that powered them, but nobody every criticizes a racer for his choice of a hull, just the engine that powered them. Again, I hope that we can put all of the B.S. behind us and start the New Year fresh and just get along for the time we have left. We can all agree to disagree, but do it in a constructive manor. Not by attacking the contributor's character.
Merry Christmas to all and "Happy Festivous to the rest of us."
To be fair to all, especially to Greg, the bickering and attitude difficulties we face are not unique to s&f. Its the state of the world these days. The information age has weighed us all down and thats why threads like this and contributers like Lars are so appreciated. We have to look past the minor gripes and consider how fortunate we all are. Thanks to s&f i have learned more about boat racing history than possible even if i signed out every book in the library about it simply by following along this great thread. I still feel the internet is mind boggling in its powers to connect enthusiasts and historians along with dreamers like me where we can all experience this knowledge and entertainment.
The time and work involved to both curate and publish all this content is immense and commendable. I feel its best to show appreciation for it and if its not your cup of tea? Perhaps move onto other areas of the site and threads that are more up your alley. As time passes these threads will stand as the best historical narrative of an incredible period of racing development that will never again be repeated. The innovation, development, and courage of the builders and racers was all pioneered by Lars and the others. Incredible to bear witness to it all from my frosty living room. Thanks again
Excellent point. Beyond Molinari think of some of the great contributors to tunnel boat racing such as Miles, Schultz, Scotti, Beard, Shakespeare, Velden, Burgess and here in Canada Burns, Pinel and of course Rob & John Scythes (Scycraft) and many, many more including those that designed, built and raced their own.
This site is a shadow of itself.
What you historians are bitching about has been going on here for yrs!
20 yrs ago (I’ve been here since day one, 25 yrs ago???) we had AMAZING talent on here.
Theyre all gone and have been for yrs.
Most of you guys only watch your history page.
Most of the rest of us, the Scream and Flyers that Greg started this site for, read everything.
So maybe 5 or 10% of us read the history page.
To be honest, IMO, that’s part of the problem.
No one cares anymore.
But you guys and us 5%.
So Ive read and loved Lars history lessons for yrs but his rules, for his thread, is different than the rest of ours.
Totally his call, but is.
I have one going right now on a 25’ single Checkmate vee bottom that I converted to twin OB’s.
Check it out and witness all the replies.
I haven’t ignored a single one, regardless of how stupid some of them are.
That is Scream and Fly.
Not one page on history.
You guys say no one participates anymore and you are right, but your mostly looking at the history page.
What you guys did back in the 70’s and 80’s was amazing, but do you even see what we’re doing now?
There are OMC guys (currently) that make 400 hp w/a fish motor based V-8 on pump gas!
500++ on race gas, 600++ on nitrous.
And they can get very close to that w/a fish motor based 6!
You guys weren’t doing that w/factory supported race motors.
I don’t care that Lars posts pixs of his motor home or his beautiful wife but when he posts pixs of places Ive been to, by boat, and I reply and i
ignored or told to stay on topic?
What topic, OMC racing history or Lars private life?
The title to his thread is OMC racing history not Lars racing history.
Two totally different things!
You guys made it big time.
Most of us never got close and most never even raced.
If its “OMC” racing history, where’s the other classes?
How about Mod VP?
Read up on what Al Stoker and his dad did, no factory support, behind the family wagon!
To be honest, that class is basically what we all do.
How about current OMCs racing?
Talk about Merc n OMC in fighting……
Call and talk to my friend and hero at Monty racing.
Hes beat everyone.
Then they change the rules.
And he does it again.
So go ahead and blame me.
Im fine w/that.
But you guys are one page of a HUGE fraternity.
No this site ain’t what it used to be but, compared to who/where?
And you bash Fujimo but he posts on all the pages.
Not just yours.
Yeah he’s kind of a dick, but does have a pretty good history, not in tunnel boat racing but boat racing.
And I will buy him multiple beers first time we cross paths!
So, the same 4 or 5 guys carry on and I’ll keep my nose out of your history.
Well..my plan was to leave this thread alone to "next year" but now I feel its time to fight back..
First thanks to everybody clicking in here to bring this thread up too close to 3.8 million hits..Largest ever on S&F.
Second..the thread is named "Facts about Evinrude/Johnson racing outboards made my OMC" was started to fight back the dominant Mercury bias here at the history page.(that was a mistake I could not change to by) instead of my..but now it was a great mistake....!!..:)
Third..
I have started 43 threads and spent plenty of time here at S&F..not only here at this thread.
Please feel free to start your own Evinrude/Johnson/OMC racing history thread and show us how to do it better..
Again.. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Lars: Ignore the detractors. As I said earlier, if people don't like your site they can go elsewhere. With 3M+ hits, it should be obvious that a lot of people do. I hope John Schubert was being sarcastic and will continue his contributions, as he also lived this history. Again, keep going for all those that enjoy that period of racing history. Maybe the detractors can start their own thread on Merc 2-strokes as they have gone by the wayside also and are now history.
Hi Lars,
Great to see you back. I was afraid that this time you might just close the book on Scream & Fly. What happened on here was something that had been simmering for a long time. I hope that the flames have finally been extinguished and that we can all get along together as friends. I think that most all of the readers, from both camps, appreciate your pictures and commentary that goes with them. As Rotary John commented: "Lars is one of the few that actually lived the history he reports." The post by LakeFever #12128 was commendable and written like a true historian. He laid it all out in a non bias, no fault fashion. As he said in part: "The time and work involved to both curate and publish all this content is immense and commendable. I feel its best to show appreciation for it and if its not your cup of tea? Perhaps move onto other areas of the site and threads that are more up your alley." I hope that WaterZebra and John Schubert will reconsider and stay here so that we can all move forward into a New Year as friends and and not adversaries. When this site lost Willabee as a regular contributor a few years back, it lost it heartbeat. His two threads, "Hot Singles and Hot Multi's, are truly fascinating to read. Nobody here knew Mercury Racing more than Willabee, he lived it.
