I edited mine too.
Seems like the V-4 flows are 280-ish and loopers are 290’s??
I still remember Chris Lake (Laker) building one and going to their 1000’ race in Wis. and placing 3rd over all!

I was talking with Gordon from Monty Racing and he said to look for an 88-89 cause they made more power.
I have an 87 and a 99. the 86-87 has a smaller bore.
The owner of Tuff Boats ran a 16' with a V6 Merc into the 90s
There's a video on YouTube of him doing a pass
It was a 150 Promax from Windsor as I recall. I lost touch with the owner of the 150.
I dug out my old boat show brochures to look up V4 weights
122 cube 90 degree V4 looper was listed at 365 lb in 1988 and 1994
105 cube 60 degree V4 Eagle was listed at 319 in 1997 and 2001
105 cube 60 degree V4 direct injection was listed at 369 (100) and 375 (115) in 2004
105 cube 60 degree V4 Etec was listed at 390 lb in 2012. We owned one of those and it was a beast
99.6 cube crossflow was listed at 301 (90), 306 (110,115), and 288 (90 manual trim) in 1988 and 1994
Hard to beat a power trim 90hp Yamaha at 270lbs! I think with a Hydrotech tuner kit making 100hp, 15" mid, and light cowl to get it around 250lbs would be the ticket.
Fast boats? Here ya go. Stereo, room for the babes, cup holders, rides like a Cadillac ,(sometimes). Also, check out that bad azz flow, with hot heads, hanging off the back. Got $1,300 or so, total into it. What more do you need?

Here is a STV with Merc 280 chasing/filming a Tuff 24 with Merc 300.

Looks like a Sunday morning fun run on lake Muskoka.
I have to make it up there someday JK
It's also on my wife's bucket list.
Any public boat launch in the area?
The current set up has a Hydrotech tuner kit plus a few extras……estimated to be around 110hp.
We’ve got another one in the works…..mid has been cut & lightened. Factory trim removed in favour of a shortened single ram with the pump in the boat. The power head is complete and should be rather interesting…….compression is REALLY high. It’ll be a 112 motor for sure.
That thing rips!
