Is there such a thing as a family boat that goes fast?

Honestly the "perfect" family boat is Pete DeCler's 1990ish Hydrostream Voyageur with Yamaha power. Runs in the 90's, lots of room, mint, and a classic. It was for sale a while back.

I agree for family maybe the open bow version of the 21 or 24 Checkmate ... Good all around! 80MPH is fast .....get a small snap cover to cover the front seats for solo runs and it will feel like a closed bow :)
Side note: The Checkmate in this pic is beautiful !

ya, for those reasons a 21 Pulsare is hard to beat. And, for most people, it goes really well even with a 200. Easy to drive.

I'd say the classic is poor choice for a family performance boat. No storage, handles poorly, needs big power to go fast, making it a handful for a new boater. Looks cool but that's about it.

I call it my family boat. Granddaughter driving, Grandson-in law shotgun, Daughter left rear, Gran-paw right rear.
Its fairly fast and it has a rear state-room.

I have a 1985 Voyager with a 250 XS. Great ski boat with a power prop and goes like hell with a speed prop. The bow seats are nice. Might sell for the right price.

Ziemer Jr had a Grandsport that would do 108 with a stock 260. I really liked
the boat. Decent in 1-2 foot chop.
