Reason being that in South Africa where his team mate Bill Badsey raced it was at high altitude and this was a good way of ramming more air into the engine.

Actually, just jogged a memory. We had one with an X-crankcase. I don't know what happened to it.

From my Danish friend Jørgen Jørgensen
In September of 1973 the Evinrude/Johnson distributor meeting was held in Greek. All new outboard models were presented, incl. the OMC rotary racing-engine.
We were all very impressed!
Thank you very much Jørgen Jørgensen
...more Rotary pictures from Greek is coming..

If I were given the time to make travels plans and expenses, I sure wish a collector out there who is blessed to possess one these would have the nerve to mount it on a vintage Scotti or Molinari and actually run it. I'd be willing to travel anywhere in North America or Europe to personally hear and see this thing run.
Wow WaterZebra :iagree:
I am one lucky man..raced together with two rotaries in the Paris 6 hours 1973 and still remember the sound.
More from Jørgen Jørgensen in Greek 1973.

Not sure who is driving here. Does not look like Jimbo, maybe Johnnie Sanders..??

If you look close you can see the exhaust cutout from the V-4 14/23 gearcase that I adapted to the rotary for Provo. The engine is the 2 pc crack with the notorous thru bolt that was prone to breaking and launching into the air like a rocket. It does have the updated bucket with the access holes for the carb jets and spark plugs.
Here is one more picture Rotary John..big waves in Greek that day..:)

which sponsors stumped up that money?
Well..FLW is an enormous business. I have been to a few tournament.
Walmart is one big famous sponsor but there is hundreds of them.
The fishing industry is very strong.

This is me four years ago at a FLW/Forrest Wood Cup event.
First place paid $500,000.00 and a fisherman using an Evinrude G2 got the check.

1975 the Evinrude 75 was white and blue. As always the 3 cylinder OMC was unbeatable in racing.
