Chill factors beginning to make its present felt, can't help thinking about people like "DonMac" bracing himself for the winter, Ian Hawkins in Minesota-------who in their right mind would want to live in MINISOTA ? Having said that, I must confess, I have never been to the place so who am I to judge?
Have to make the most of today in the shop, won't be back in there until the weekend, I may be light on communication for a while! J.
That's it, shop locked up until I get back.
Ate bear all morning, had a cracker of a day so far, virtually finished the concept, right down to the polishing of the outriggers. Should not be so bloody smug about it all, usually means impending disaster . GotTHE go, need shuteye.!

Will tell you a bit about him, He worked for Bill Gates out of Seattle, him and his team were headhunted by Corbis, they were so successful, they bought a small company, built it up and went public, sold it for £880,000,000. When he died he still had his team round him and was doing the whole thing over again.

What did I tell you about the cock crowing before the sun comes up ?
Came to stitch it all back together and "Voila" I got the first ever boat with underwater steering, the bar is below the bottom of the boat.
Upshot of all this is. I'm still working on the last concept !
Not a good day today, you only get to eat bear once a month, I already did that, boots now on the other foot, I'm bear bait.
Did finish the last concept, took all the piccies and then deleted the lot! What a dipstick!
Mathew now in hospital, has to be some good news any time soon, seems like we have everyone else's share of bad news!
Will take some more piccies tomorrow , that's easily remedied -----fixing phoggies is child's play ------fixing folk is harder!
Been and gone and done it, tore all the muscles in my left arm, it's now a totally useless piece of kit, sad part is, I have no idea of what caused it!
Going to have an easy day today, try and take some half tidy phoggies of the "Pughie", will post them later in the day.

Work rate is slowing down dramatically -----not the man I used to be------got a body that refuses to do what's asked of it------even taking a shower takes longer, AND I have to think about it for ten minutes before I actually DO lt.

Decided to take one day at a time----roll with the hits------then when he's not looking, whack him hard and run.
Enough ramblings for today, let's see what tomorrow brings! MYGGWY.J.
I got a tale to tell, but you have to take a peek at the Molinari thread first and read Lake X Kids post.
Its Sunday and I got all day! So log on later!
Where to begin ? Remember I told you that once there's been a "happening" every thing that happens seem somehow related to the event.
This happened this morning when I read Lake X Kids post on the Molinari thread!
Renato was well into and a master at "Mind Games" and psyching other drivers, thought I would do a little of my own and put a few widgets in the mix to balance things up. I began to form a plan of my own.
In those days Bill Brown and myself were close friends, he was high up in the chain at COSWORTH engineering and most of the grid in F1 was made up of COSWORTH engines! Including Ken Tyrrel who's number one driver was none other than Jackie Stewart..
Italians are the number one nation in the world to love and adore car racing, the whole country is car crazy including all the guys who worked at the Molinari factory in Torrigia.
I asked Bill if he thought he could get J/S to call by the factory and meet some of the workers, he told me he thought it would be OK for me to ask him !
Friday morning I borrowed a boat and drove down to the Villa D 'Este, walked up to the terrace where Jackie and his wife Helen were having breakfast with their two children--------he asked me to join them and put the plan to him about " just dropping in at the factory". He agreed to do it.
I returned to Torrigia, Renato asked where I had been, so I told him I had just had breakfast with the world champion' ------a million dollars could not have bought the look on his face!
You ACTUALLY KNOW JACKIE STEWART ? Yeah and his wife, and his two kids -----by this time all the guys in the factory were gathered round listening-----then I just dropped in------oh yeah, he said he would drop in later this morning and say hi.
Then it got comical, Angelo demanded everyone down tools and pick up a broom, clean up the shop, tidy the workshop, Don clean overalls, clean the Windows, hose down the floor, line up the race boats -------Royalty was paying a visit !
Sure enough Jackie and Helen and the children arrived in an Abbatte 21' , moored up at the jetty,
shook my hand and walked through the two lines of men who bowed in awe of the great man. He stayed around 15 minutes, on leaving they all shouted and cheered as they waved their goodbyes with tears in their eyes.
I knew I had scored a good few brownie points over Renato with that move----
Now the story gets more interesting than ever------but you'll have to wait for the next post for the epilogue .
So, we ended the European tour, Milan, Como, Campione, Amsterdam and Paris, Garbrecht ships my boat over to the USA for the Havasu race.
I decided to take all my grandkids ( 9 of them) to Alton towers for a long weekend in our Camper, Motorhome, Recreational vehicle, call it what you will, there was accommodation for them all.
We were having a friendly game of soccer, (well, it started out that way) against a bunch of kids from the east end of London --------Wilsons V. London. Wasn't long before we had a huge crowd of people watching------among them were Princess Anne, her Children, two body guards with Helen and Jackie Stewart and their two children! You could have knocked me down with a pheasants tail feather. We won the match 11-12, much to all the kids delight.
A couple of weeks later I arrived in Oshberg with Pruett, Richie Powers had done me a hot motor and we set off across America with high hopes.
When you get to race Havasu, you get presented with the Havasu Race Jacket, with your name embroidered on it. George May gave me my jacket which had the name "JACKIE STEWART" sewn on.
For the last 45 years I have kept bumping into J.S. On odd occasions------the last time was at Keith Duckworths Memorial service, we just nodded at each other, still don't know if he really remembered me.
Thats what I was reflecting on earlier "HAPPENSTANCE".
Been thinking most the night about spitfires, which one tickles my fancy, Mark 1---10, there all different, do I make or buy the prop? Two , three, four or five bladed prop, with or without armament-------what about the six stubby exhaust pipes either side? Stainless or Alloy.
Hundreds of questions, which way to go.
Only one thing to do, take the bull by the horns and as Ivan used to say, GO FOR IT !
Tried to get my head round the spitfire-----nothing working !
Switched to the sailboat, nothing much there either.
Turned up the nose cone for a three bladed prop. Try again later!
Never did get back in the shop this afternoon------got a head full of nothing!
Talked to Bill and Betty Baker this afternoon, they will post their address again, times of the golf and the Barbie .
He will have All the trophies and "Concepts", All the old farts who are expecting Molli's and motors and things will have them at Tavares.
Johnno, Bill Baker will hand you the "ROTORY"should I not make it, not under any circumstance are to hand him the Single Malt-----VOUS COMPRENDE .?
I can wait 'till next year!
Jilly stayed most of the day with Matt at the Hospice, she reckons he is much more comfortable, with the staff being much more capable, and the food is superb! She aims to spend this afternoon down there too.
Feel More positive about where I'm at this morning, need some creative workshop time, have tended to think too much instead of doing! Get lost in dark places, try not to go there but there's a magnetic kind of misery pull, always feel Sh-tty after I've been there. Feel better when I've offloaded some of my gleanings-------must be my age------think I may have reached the menopause or just having a "man" moment-------whatever, bear with me for a while longer, soon be out of the shadows and into the sun.
Clocks go back this weekend, fall comes in with a bang after that but life's on hold for the minute in this particular neck of the woods!
Made progress! Power of positive thinking and all that crap-----problem is ----it works!
Beginning to bear some semblance to a Spit.
Will get a piccie to you to peruse perchance, maybe by the weekend.
Jackie - Stay focused on what you do best and don't let your mind wander to that dark place because if you do, it will consume you and it is hard to remove yourself from it once you are there. Yes, the power of positive thinking
In Vegas at the moment Bob--------Barbados tomorrow -----only doing sunshine from hereonin!J.
Sam dropped by this afternoon, just wanted to see what I was up to !
Did a really stupid thing today-----was cutting out the Spits fuselage on the bandsaw 1.5" X 3" alloy, ------tripped the thermal overload switch------it's a stone bitch to get to, I have to unscrew the collection box behind the motor, push the restart button and reassemble. Forgot to pull the plug----Duh -----Dingleberry! -----240 volts----whack! Kicked me half way across the shop AND put a hole through my middle finger ------was bleeding like a stuck pig !
Knocked out all the electrics in the house and workshop------good job the kitchen goddess was at the hospice visiting Matt or she would have buried the shop keys.
Spit concept is well under way-------roughed out the three blades for the prop, tapped the nose cone and blades, stitched ' em together, all I got to do is shape up the blades!. Next comes a ton of grinding and shaping of the fuselage and wings, tail plane and two banks of open exhausts. Just your average everyday sort of workload.
Wait 'till you see this one Stavros! A. P something or other shouldn't be too difficult------once I got my eye in ?
Went with Jilly to the hospice tonight to sit with Matt for an hour, he slept most of the time, I'm pretty sure he recognised me.
Recieved a couple of nice cards today, one from Lynne and Billy and the other from Lou and Gary at GEICO.
God was on the beer last night, it's absolutely bucketing down and forecasters reckon it's a 24 hour leak------don't really matter to me, I ain't going anywhere .
Got my head round the spit at last, gets easier as I go along, the jobs as easy as you make it, think difficult and it is difficult-------so I'm thinking easy---peasey.
Cant lie here all day cogitating-----must drop Willabee a line, he's been too quiet for too long!
Hi Jackie
Do you still have good old fuses in UK houses?
Might want to change out for some residual earth leakage ones so they trip when the power is going somewhere besides the return wire?
Maybe portable ones in the workshop?
Hope your finger gets working again.
Cheers
Pilgrim
What the hell you talking about Pilgrim----the only bloody thing I understood was "Good old fuses" which I have in spades?
RESIDUAL EARTH LEAKAGES ? You mean like Fuji, Etna and Krakatoa ?
Finger never stopped working-----even with the hole! My fingers are like that!l
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residual-current_device
for you to get shocked power had to flow through you to ground
So just imagine if a device could check that power went down the wire but didnt come back so it must have gone to earth so it trips
If you buy a powertool on OZ they must supply one for the lead, all houses have them and get updated if a sparky works on them
I dont want to be part of a with 9 amps circuit coz the fuse is 10 and wont blow
When i got my first car. It had plugs and points, a distributer and a carburettor , A motor on top of the windshield just for the windscreen wiper------headlamps and side lamps ------a starting handle and a spare wheel. My father taught me how to keep things in shape so there were no such things as garage bills, we cleaned and gapped plugs, set the dwell on points etc. Kept on top of the maintenance ------a decoke at 20,000 was an absolute must. Price of an old Bentley could be as much as £100 but an Austin seven in fair Nick was around a tenner. Price of a new car was from £250 to as high as £ 800 for a de luxe mobile? You got eight gallons of petrol for £1.
65 years on and there are a few minor changes, ugly little things like "management systems"-------
electronic ignition----------computers--------fuel injection-----keyless ignition, state of the art bum warming , positional seat settings, wipers that know when to switch on but don't have the gumption to turn themselves off untilAugust. Starting handles fetch good money at any flea market or garage sale----spare wheels are £500 optional extra and it costs £90 to fill the Lexus.
Oh yes-----another little thing occurred ------any tiny far eastern vehicle now costs from £10,000 ------£1000,000.
Somewhere along the way I got left behind in the technology of the world!
So if you don't mind Pilgrim ---------I'll pass!
Another thing that we are dealing with today is known a "Proprietary Code." This is when your check engine light comes on and nobody except the manufacturer's dealer has the tool to read and remove the code. Back about 10 years ago, when you had a check engine light come on, you could take it to the neighborhood garage and they could read the code, repair the problem and then remove the code. Now the manufacturers have made it so that you can only go to the factory dealer to read the code, taking that business away from the neighborhood garage. Just another way that technology has reached deeper into the consumer's pocket and helped destroy the small business.
Thanks Bob, depressing to think that sneaky technology can put local engineers out on the streets and the largest country in the world can control the world's steel industry and dictate the price by simply flooding the market with subsidised product until every other country shuts down the plants. Then guess what----------when you're the only one left------who d'ya think controls the price?
Car boot this morning, left the place alone for a while, was getting into a routine but maybe I'll find something interesting today.
Went to sleep all excited about the spit!
Took a lot of care with this one, front end has worked out exactly as I hoped, there's no mistaking what it's supposed to be!
Shouldn't crow too soon, learned from bitter experience that complacency can leave you with a bite in the Arse and egg on your face.
Time to "hit the road" Jack. New days just begun ! Get out and wring its feckin neck!
Picked up a couple o Motor Sport" magazines from 1966? Boy oh boy does it ever make for powerful reading. Fresh outa time right now-----will send you some interesting reading!
'1971 V12 E Type -------price. £950 ?????
What is the matter with you lot out there ? Dumb or what-------notice anything odd about the last post ??????? Comment when you notice!
Ill write up today's gleanings meanwhile.
Finally worked out the exhaust system for the spit-----spent half the day working on a pair of six pipe manifolds with cut off stubbies threaded the pipes and the seating ------shaped em , streamlined them, then binned the damn things-----abject failure!
Then I had one of my mad fits of depression-----the fog lifted, simple idea, problem is no more !
Ate Bar, both this morning and afternoon------still chuffed to bits the way the spits coming along, too good to be true.
Had a stellar day at the car boot sale-------I haven't seen a wooden spokeshave for three months, then Voila just like buses, there's an abundance -----seemed every stall had them ----- I bought five in all, ones a corker with a brass sole plate. Total cost was two pounds fifty pence.
Two nice die holders, a couple of antique carving chisels, a watchmakers miniature adjustable, a deusey of a hook knife and two copies of "Motor Sport " from the sixties-------still had change out of a tenner.
Jilly spent the day at the hospice with Matt, that's one of the reasons I could soldier on , no interruptions .
Got a great mount figured out for the spit----might be the latter part of the week before I get any piccies posted !
Couldnt put the Motor Sport mags down, knicker wetting reading.
J2Allard for £265------Aston Climax for £600 with a freshbuilt motor-----SS 100 Jaguar for £ 1495 ?
Im just going to take another peek, night night all MYGGWY.J.
Jackie---I have been reading, and enjoying most of your 'Tricks'---nearly two years??
I have admired all you have been able to do in your 'shop'---and am jealous that your shop is in your back yard
But---my shop is in my hangar---30 miles away!! and today was to be the culmination of a whole summers work---exciting stuff for an 84 year old!!!
Woke up this AM and it is snowing!!! and I-70 is closed!!!
What do you always say?? Bugger!!
-or 'tomorrow is another day'?? Spent the day on the computer and I-pad--sound familiar??
