Hells teeth, was that ever fun while it lasted-----the halcyon days, I thought they'd never end, burned both ends and then set fire to the middle-----thought I was indestructible ' till i had a heart attack at 44-----slowed me down a tad, but not for long. Took a while to work out how to beat the system-----specially the medical examinations which examined the old ticker before I could get a super licence. Got the licence and went on to race the Cosworth . No regrets whatsoever, UIM and RYA Don't make allowances for drivers who have a touch of angina.
Civil aviation have no place for would be helicopter pilots who had a heart attack, but I got a full licence -----forty years on I look back and wonder how the hell that happened------but it did.
Keith Duckworth had a heart attack around the same time----aviation authority refused him a chopper licence but he was a high profile figure and wouldn't buck the system, he laughed like a drain when we talked about how I fooled them.
Funny how things worked out, Keith got divorced and married Jill-----Spalding got divorced and married Jill, one of my best mates Ken got divorced and married Jill, me myself got divorced and married Jill. All within a year of each other.
Must have been something in the water!!!!
