Nothing like finding holes drilled thru the bottom..
Were they just screws thru the bottom or did they drill thru realize and fill them?
Yea 17 gal sloshing around definitely didn't help

I will start with a few pictures (post #215) of what my 19 looked like last August when I bought it;

Just launched the new & improved after spending most of the winter & spring with Rob Scythes of Scycraft Racing Boats who did a beautiful job IMO of re-doing the interior, some re-rigging and a totally new exterior look;

Attachment 470464We purchase brand new Cougar 23 MTR in 2000 from CanadaAttachment 470465 after owning an 17 foot Hydrostream Vector and a 20 ft Hydrostream Vulture. Absolutely loved the ride and stability compared to the Hydrostreams. Boating on the Mississippi River near LaCrosse WI has gotten more challenging with traffic in Pool 8. So it's time to sell as we own a 2015 Nautic Star center console boat which we use in the Florida Keys for fishing and cruising. It's been a great 20 years with the Cougar, lots of good times and memories. Wouldn't trade it for any money. Call or text John 507-458-8845 and check the Scream and Fly Marketplace for more details
I hope everyone is having a great summer and you are staying safe. I thought I would post up some new photos of my Cougar to see some of things I did to it over the winter. I added 4 LED dock lights, a pop-up bow light, 6 pop-up cleats, a billet swim step with an Aqua Step ladder, added LED interior lights, 5 billet step plates, LED transom lights, lifted the engine 2 bolt holes and added Bob's transom wedges and rebuilt the jack plate pumps and upgraded the solenoids. I have put a couple more hours on it but have not strung it out yet. The lake has been very busy this summer, so I have to pick an early morning to do it.
Thanks
Gary
That thing is sick. I would love to step it up to a 23
team supra
Thanks for the kind words. I am very happy with the boat. I considered a 23MTR before I bought my 2004 22MTR but it wouldn't fit in my garage or on my lift. The 22MTR is quite a bit bigger than the 21MTR. It has a ton of more room and storage space and a nice sun pad.
Take care
Gary
Update!!
I had chance yesterday to stretch out the Cougar's legs a little without going too crazy as there were other boats on the lake as well. Using my Garmin eTrex because I still haven't got my GPS Speedo working, I saw 98.5mph at about 6,000rpms with the jacks on 2. My wife took some photos from our neighbour's dock but I was too far away and the photos are small and when you blow them up they get blurry. I'll try get some better ones the next. The boat very good and I am starting to get used to it. There is lots more there but I need a calmer day. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks
Gary
I came across this 2002 Cougar 27MTR with twin 300Xs on Kijiji last week:
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1524805545
I don't know the boat but it looks very nice and with the value of the US $$, it seems like a good deal for a US buyer.
Thanks
Gary
Okay the winter is here in the Great White North!! Is anyone getting a Cougar under the tree this Christmas or maybe some shiny new bling for your current Cougar? Post up some photos as it is going to be a long time before they are wet again.
Thanks
Gary
Mine is getting alot of attention, love and $$ this winter to make it how I'd like. New gauges, interior completely redone (to look 100 original), ECU being sent to DBR :)

Sounds great! Make sure you post up the before and after photos showing your progress. That goes for anyone else too.
Thanks

I was just going through the thread from the start and a posting of video by Flatsix that he took of his 22MTR on YouTube and I came across both of these:
Randy's 27MTR/Twin 300Xs

Bob Cruze's 22MTR/Twin 280s

HEllo guys,Is there any 22' mtr outboard boats for sale? looking for a canadian built one with no power, thanks Tim
Here are some pictures of my 2002 21' MTR. Ive always built and owned various v-drive grand nationals / flat bottoms, but wanted something a little more user friendly. My father had a 21 MTR with a 300 evinrude when i was very little, so i always loved the cougars. Ended up seeing this one posted on cragslist spring of 2019 and just had to have it. Absolutely love the boat.
Had a 300XS with DBR. Ran 106 on GPS with a labbed 30 pro ET. Ended up breaking a crank sealing ring and ruining the crank this summer. I decided to buy a 300R which will be arriving before end of the year. Looking forward to seeing how the 2 engines compare.

Nice looking 21MTR. The colour scheme pattern is a little different than most of the 21s built. It sounds like you have it running very well too. Post up some photos with the new engine installed.
Thanks
Gary

Great looking boats! Thanks for posting up the photos.

Okay, I have gutted the Cougar and making some changes over the winter. I removed the Capilano helm (which will be for sale) and replacing it with a Zeiger 7" tilt helm, a CharLynn valve and a Verado pump. I am swapping the white Gaffrig throttle and shifters for a polished set. Changing the Gaffrig mechanical trim indicators (which will be for sale) for the Stainless Marine Deluxe trim and jack indicators. I am having all the white billet hardware re-powder coated purple and changing all the switches to purple panels. I posted the photos of what it looks like now and I will post the after photos once it is all back together.
If you are doing changes to your Cougar, please post them up. We could get 50cms of snow tonight, so winter is not over yet.
Thanks
Gary

Nice job! How do you like the Livorsi LED trim and jack indicators. Did you use the electronic sending units? Do you have Bob's jack plates? Post some photos of how you did it as I am about to order the Stainless Marine Deluxe indicators and I would like to know your thoughts on it.
Thanks
Gary
Tim
Congratulations! I am surprised that you went with an I/O, however it looks great. What was in the boat? It looks like a 496HO and what are you putting in it? Give us more details. By the way, I think you have a Cougar MTR ADDICTION!! What is your secret? Let me know, so that I can talk my wife into letting me buy another Cougar. LOL!!
Thanks
Gary
Hi Gary,
Thanks! It seemed like the right choice to use the LED indicators. On my Lavey I have mechanical so that's what I'm used to. The LED's of course have discreet steps as opposed to the smooth movement of the mechanical. That and the price would be the only complaints. They were much easier to rig because the trim signal is on the NMEA 2000 bus from the engines so all it took was a NMEA 2000 tap for the Lavorsi to get the trim info. The Lavorsi jack input is analog 0-5V but puts out the NMEA codes as trim 3 & 4 onto the bus. That gives me the ability to put them on the Lowrance as an overlay. I didn't end up using it. That was special programming that I had Livorsi do so they are versatile unites and all custom order. I went to great lengths to make a clean actuator for the morse cable on the Lavey with a ramp on the motor side of the jack plate and a roller that pushes the morse cable that comes through the transom. With the Cougar I made my own actuators also because I don't like morse cables for jacks and that was the only thing I could find for mechanical to electronic. I used bicycle cables which I found in stainless with stainless jackets. Both actuators were big projects but I think the are each better than anything available of-the-shelf. The first four pix are the Cougar and the last two are the Lavey.
Hi Gary,it had a 375 hp mag and I happen to have a hp500 in stock. So it makes sence for the swap (LOL).I have a local lake that they do not allow 2 strokes, thanks Tim

Any one have a trailer cover for a 21 MTR or know of anyone who has the patterns? I have people who can make one but prefer not having to take the boat somewhere if I don't have to.
300R is going to be mounted in a few weeks.

Here is the link to one that crescentbar had listed:

Check it out.
Good luck

I thought I might add to the post started by Gary (Hydrogasm) “lets see your Cougar that is”. Attached photo could be called “lets see your Cougar that was”. This is as close as I can come to displaying the very first Cougar Tom made out of his garage in Duncan on Vancouver Island, almost to the day, 51 years ago. It is a 16 1/2 foot vee bottom called “THE SPRINT” I think it took him something like 2 weeks to just lay it up and yes it was built like a tank and about as heavy as one
He and his wife moved to Salmon Arm in 1972 where he and I formed Cougar Custom Boats and over the years made something like 600 boats with one tunnel going as far as New Zealand to come back as an aluminum hulled 19' jet river racer and one even going to China??
It has been fantastic to read and see all the boats in this post over the past year or so and see how many are still out there with some even going through restoration. I am sure TOM would be “proud as bunch” (English saying for Super Proud) to see all this and read the comments. He made one “hell of a boat” He retired to Mexico but we still keep in touch.

PS Try emailing me direct if there is anything I can help you with or if you would like a copy of the history of the company

I am glad you finally decided to post on my thread and I hope you will share some of the info you gave to me with the rest of the members.
Thanks

I have the exhaust and drive work finished up.Had to have the riser welded up to match the water ports and better flow the exhaust.(old style to new style Powerflow).I had bought a set of used risers(saved about 1500). The lower unit need some of its patina to go away. Also remove the front water pump and put a water pass over on.That saves about 50 pounds and a belt.Got lucky and did not have to modify the hatch(thanks Cougar boys)Just abut ready for a beat down on her,LOLAttachment 483840Attachment 483841Attachment 483842Attachment 483843

You are coming right along. How long before you get it wet? Let us know.
