What was the original surface on these boats in race form? Just light paint on wood to keep weight down or other? I'm sure he has gone a little further. Glass layup with gelcoat or maybe just Imron/Awlgrip type surface paint?

Special primer directly on the plywood. Lots of sanding before painting like a car.

So far our Vibe have behaved great.
I guess you don’t have to spend a million dollar or more to have fun on the road.
Carina is really the one that’s pushing for "Life on Wheels"..(this time)
Let’s try one more time..❤️
Another brand new reproduction of my old racing t-shirt..❤️

It all depended on the life expectancy of the boat. Once saw Veldens crew cut up a Kool tobacco V8 rig (In Sacramento CA Arthur Mostert?) and dropped the safety capsule in the truck for the return trip to Europe because it was not cost effective to ship the damaged hull back. Some boats were sprayed with West Systems epoxy, sanded and then primed and painted or clear coated. If you had a boat with a beautiful finish, it came at a price (application of materials and labor or increased weight). Saw a lot of new hulls show up in the spring with grey primer and were not painted until the racing set up was dialed in or sponsorship was figured out. The safe bet was a white hull which went with any sponsorship direction.
Tunnel though finishes I’m not an expert on this by any means just a local boat racer from Miami But the guy that worked on all the boats that I raced and built all the screaming yellow zonkers based on the milesmaster design. Mr Al Martin Used a two-part clear Epoxy finish on all the time about bottoms he built He did the same thing on a lot of the hydros will be there for people. He was also a believer in double step bottoms
Arrived at Marion County Park outside Jasper, TN today. Beautiful place and we are staying a few days waiting out hurricane Nicole to leave Florida.

Lars, This is where the "Jasper" outboard drags are/were held. No event there this year.

E Production class. I was running an Action Marine with a 49 in Merc 650 in this class at the time. The OMCs had the edge in this class by then.Attachment 512157
