Which I did not detect between other long-term opposing (OMC & Merc) factory team drivers. Other opposing team drivers were cordial to each other, but the Outboard competition war dictated a certain degree of distance between OMC & Merc drivers.

The boat #700 was Burt Ross’s number & has his name as driver along side the cockpit. The color scheme was typical of Johnson Raceboat schemes for advertising purposes. In 1971 I drove a Molinari with a V-4 that was painted similarly & I gave a poster in my garage with a V-4, rigged boat, a V-6 rigged boat & a Rotary all Johnson’s & with the later Johnson dark Orange (Stinger) color. All the same scheme. Perhaps Burt’s boat was first used for that purpose then given to him to race.Quote:
