Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

There you go Fugitive——- thank you——- guess it pays to complain occasionally——— glad you posted several SK’s, I need to “Waist” the boat—— a lot more “Round” on the deck and that contraption on the transom was always going to be a headache——— but I’ll get there eventually!

Heard the sad news that our old friend Steve ( STAVROS) Sirois has Ben taken into a hospice—- original founder of OFF —- we all owe Steve a great deal—— is one of the reasons the old farts is so successfull. Have no doubt that he was the one responsible for the lake X visit last fall.

Steve (Stavros) Sirois was also the founder of “LIFE AT LAKE X”———— the most successful thread on S&F for years.
Long before I ever even thought of the “Tricks” thread, I would look every day at Steve’s thread and marvel at what went on there.
A few years back I came across boxes of performance data on almost every boat and motor that ever got tested at lake X——— fifty percent of these were signed off by S. Sirois—— He was a huge part of the set up at lake X.
I also met IRIS—— wife-nurse-mother-friend- lifetime companion—- a great lady who was partner to a great man—— perfect combination.
Saw them both at the OFF fall meeting last November in Tavares. —— Was obvious to us all that Steve wasn’t in the best of health, but he was as cheerful as ever and gave a touching speech at lake X.
Thankyou Steve for all the wonderful memories you gave me and the rest of the “OLD FARTS” over the years——— hand on heart—— I can say in all honesty and with great affection——- you will be sorely missed by a great many people——— Stavros—-R.I.P.

Steve and I were chatting on the phone, sometime in 2009 when the idea of a meet for past and present boat racers was first mooted.
i’d known Caddie since 2000——- when he persuaded Mark to move from Racine to Florida, Jim spent half his life at Geico in Jupiter and was a good friend of both Steve and Caddie.
Between the three of them they founded OFF——- the rest is history—— new friendships were founded, I got to meet a bunch of the old time “GREATS”—— ODELL, BAKOS,GENE, and a lot more—— renewed friendships with Jim Hunt, Mark Rathemell, Made new friends with Rich Luhrs and Roger H. aNd the likes.
Long May the old farts continue———- you are never too young, or too old to be a member of OFF .

lasr speech ever at lake x November 2018 !

Quiet day in the shop—- settled into a thinking mode—- mainly about Steve SIROIS,
Of all the old farts meetings, the first one at Caddilacs on the inter coastal has to be the best !
A visit to Marks first workshop——- then on to Gieco——— evening get together on the front at Jupiter—— Charlies fly past——- WARBY gracing us with his presence.
Never to be forgotten magical moments —-
just fernagled the day away——by the end of it, I had most of the “Blown Offey” constructed. Fitted the blower belt and shaped up eight open stacks.
Another day and I should have the motor ready to fit!
Tried a couple of coats of clear on the RAYSON CRAFT——- Afraid beechwood doesn’t have a great deal to say for itself——- it never had a lot of character and it’s not about to change now.
Next move is to decide what colour ———
Did I see an SK boat that looked like a comp ski boat in the line up at Tavares—— think it was red——
Maybe I’ve got a fixation about SK rigs these days——- piccies Wednesday or Thursday depending on ????.

Here we go again——— first day of spring——- Monday, start of a new week—— got a bunch of concepts on the go——— Canada Dry——- Kiekhaefer 111—- Rayson SK—— Big Blown Offy—— and a couple of tunnels all glued up and ready to carve.
WHY ? You may ask—— I ask myself the same thing, all the time——— bloody stupid——- problem is—- I think of something and have to start it before I forget it ———
Its like only having one pair of specs——— I can never remember when I had ‘em last or where I left the damn things——— so I buy half a dozen pairs, at a dollar a time from Walmart, scatter them about the shop so I never lose time searching.
Its an age related thing—— fighting against the tide——- dodging the reaper—- having more than enough to do tomorrow—— so I have lots to look forward too.
I just have that feeling I’m never going to catch up with all the tasks I set myself—— ??? DINGLEBERRY,
