Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

I found that same listing from two years ago, but I cannot find the more recent one. It has been a while since I saw the last listing. If you read down on that older listing it says: "still for sale, i need the space make an offer, thanks" My guess is that it probably sold.

Back when ET79 won Parker, it was running the Jaguar V-12 built by Art Mission of British Motor Service - 521 W. Katella Ave, Orange, CA. 92867 - (714) 997-1122

I know that the Silver Wing ET80 "Sasquatch" is still inside the Quaker Steak & Lube resturaunt in Clearwater, Fl. When I inquired a few years ago from the parent company, Best Wings (USA), they said that they purchase it from the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Kent Washington. They said it was for sale, but I never did follow up to get a price. Sasquatch was the owned by Art Williams and driven by Greg Foster to win the Parker Enduro in 1994.

There's a rake of V12 Jag. Engines for sale, ranging in price from £500------£1250 in the UK.
Shipping would probably double the price, but a half tidy basic engine should come out under $5,000.

You'd be hard pressed to go past a LS aluminium chev these days, probably lighter as well

I was just thinking, I'll bet most world powerboat records are held by engines that are imperial measurements?
Ken Warby boat was most likely to be metric but engine wasnt.

The whole object of restoring an antique ( 25 years old, vintage,50 years and I think veteran is 75/100 )is to keep the "Provenance" -----authenticity -----originality. Otherwise it has no value!
Would be a piece of cake to stick an Ilmor lump in the Cosworth, but it would no longer be of any value. Problem is a fresh built DFV at $100,000 would be stinking cheap in today's market.
We all TALK about 5/600 hp from a four pot VW, but where's the history in that, and an LS alloy Chevy, they have to make their own mark and actually DO something before they have the right to be "Historic"
WARBY pulled off one of the greatest feats of powerboating ever done, how the hell he did it is an enigma------(was 18 mph short of the record, so his mom told him to "chop 18" off the rudder!!!)
Not Hollywood or the A team or mission impossible combined could come up with a story line like that----fact is the record still stands today.
Last time I saw Ken was at the old farts annual four or five years ago----he was fat and happy and more important ----still alive.
First time I ever met him was at the Brighton boat show-----Ros Knott ( editor of powerboat magazine)brought this chap on to the stand and we chatted for a while when she upped with--------and what do you think of this Australian who has just broken the world water speed record-----------I told her, he's mad as a bloody March hare -----what sort of an idiot would go after a world record on his own, hells teeth, I don't think he even had a safety boat----the guy is a total fruit and nut case----------Ros just grinned at me and said "thanks for that Jackie, -------meet Ken WARBY "

...good point Jackie. Why I have turned down offers to take this old Contender hull and turn her into another version of a "Texas Flats Boat". Pull the top cap off, deck her after adding more weight with supports, and add a center console and a couple of seats.

"Thanks guys for the suggestions, but I want to keep her original." is what i always say!!

BTW: Jackie, I will post up some pics of the Pecan wood I have here in the garage as well as some pics of the Orchard soon as I get some time.

I'm all for authentic restorations so we all get to see them on the water

We have been in negotiations with Ford and Cosworths to try and do a deal on a DFV for three years now, but have so far been unsuccessful. Mark has also been up to his fetlocks building his super boat, designing his new race boat, beating on props and customising gear cases , so the "Cosworth
has lain largely untouched-----it's under cover at GIECO for now, but I have "High Hopes". It just has to be totally original to make the project worthwhile.

Way to go Batman, origin and authenticity is what makes a vintage boat desirable and expensive, so why settle for less?
PROCRASTINATION is the enemy of old timers------would like to see pics of the Pecan wood in the garage and on the trees------get the Kodak or the canon out and snap away-----slap the card into the card reader and download------if five year old kids can do it so can you and me.

Thats true Bob----restoration is just stretching the boundaries without taking the roof off.

A bit like the fairground of life, some take the roundabout, others take the swings, some just wander, eating candy floss and fries, then a few lucky people like us get to ride the roller coaster.

Just in case you thought I was skiving -----well on the way with with this rag and stick concept, found a piece of marble, rooted through the Acacia saved from the bonfire, had some odd pieces of stainless skulking around, a bit of sawing, carving and polishing and something starts to happen.
another for the pool room I suppose.

...Jackie, here are some pics of when we trimmed the lower branches off of the Pecan trees. The small stuff I threw into the shredder on the back of an old Oliver tractor so I could use it for smoking meats on the small pit. I'll take some pics tomorrow of the big pieces my Father wanted to make table tops and cutting boards out of.
