You can see from a mile away Bob Nordskog is driving boat #23 with Johnson Stinger GP V4 power..:)
Boat SE 58 is Dieter Schulze

Here you can see the Johnson SE class engine Dieter Schulze used in Paris 6 Hours 1973.
This engine was only sold 1973. You can see the shift level on the mid section and the X-115 gear case.
The Evinrude model I used was called 65 SS.
I don't remember the name for the Johnson.
Not sure if this engine was sold in the USA.

thats a rare engine combination
In the US 1973 was the last Mercury's 49in motor was still competitive with the OMCs in SE.
In the beginning of 1973 Merc 650 3 cyl was little bit faster than the Evinrude 65 in the SE/ E Offshore. Mainly because of a smaller faster gearcase.
First two pictures is my Piraya with a stock 1973 65 Evinrude.
I June OMC released the 65 SS with the X-115 gearcase and Merc was history.
The 65 SS gearcase made my Piraya very hard to handle..so I used the 65 SS powerhead on a stock midsection/gearcase.
This was legal in the E class.
My Piraya was faster then the larger Merc 800/850. We are passing the #24 boat in the third picture.
1974 OMC released the new SE class engine with the nitro gearcase and my SE class Clerici was 12/15 MPH than my 1973 Clerici/65SS

You guys had more gear case options than we did in the states. I was running a Mercury in E Production 1n 72&73. The heavier v-bottom boats worked better with the higher torque OMC motors even with the bigger gear cases. Starting in 74 they put the small gear cases on the 75 hp motor and that was all she wrote foe Mercury in E class.
Well..1974 the 70HP Triumph was using the new smaller gearcase nicknamed Nitro for the UIM SE class racing.. but only a smaller number of 70 HP engines was built like this.
15 inch shaft, stiff rubber mount, racing powertrim, and steering bars was included in the box from OMC. (First picture show my 1974 UIM SE class Clerici/Evinrude 70 with Nitro gearcase)
There was no production 75 HP from OMC 1974.
1975 was the first year for the production 75 with the smaller nitro gearcase. Second picture is my 1975 Clerici/Evinrude 75 Hustler with Nitro gearcase.

A very nice picture for me.
(You can also see the Evinrude 65SS and the #67 boat and another Johnson with the X-115 gearcase)
Finally proof by picture we where in Paris 1973 to race but was not allowed..!!
The white Dodge van with a race boat behind upper left corner is us leaving the pit. We was not allowed to keep my boat in the pit..
Thank you Henry-Jacques Cmc....
