Nice shot
Check out the Duggan heads
Whoever goes fast with the new rules has that record. The old standard was a different deal.
Well said Rick!:iagree: Your boat looks awesome! Especially with the Monty Racing stickers/emblems!
If you want to break a UIM Kilo record, as Bob Wartinger's outboard world record is, you need to run through the UIM,..
So you need to have a cockpit built by a UIM approved manufacturer... and if it's a class speed greater than 160MPH, you will need to prove an engineering analysis report on your cockpit saying that you cockpit WILL sustain a crash at your predicted speed plus 20%...... what engineer is going to sign off saying the cockpit will be safe in a crash????...really
This ONLY applies to a single boat on the water, doing a kilo run on good water.... I asked Bob Wartinger why this applies to kilo runs, and NOT 6 to 8 boats racing in a circuit in classes that run at speed above 160MPH, so in less than perfect water after a lap or two.... Bob said "we didn't discuss that"... so you can circuit race at speeds above 160MPH, and NO specially engineered cockpit needed... run by yourself on a kilo... YES you do.....
Over the past decade , boats have competed in many classes in Australia, and around the world in UIM championships, and Kilo events without UIM approved cockpits, H1 hydroplane do every year....the UIM turns a blind eye
Bob Wartinger even "Grandfathered" ( approved retrospectively ) cockpits and allowed them to win World titles,
In the History of the Unlimited water speed record, the UIM has only ever changed it's cockpit rules that affect this class ( our class) twice..... both have been exactly the same year We have had a jet Boat ready to challenge for the world water speed record ( 2004, and 2013)....
Our current boat dad ( Ken Warby) and I have built Spirit of Australia II had the cockpit built and installed to the rules of the day it was made 2011...... conveniently Bob Wartinger changed the rules last month,.. we explained it was built to the rules of the day, and asked it to be grandfathered, as he did for dozens of boats early this year...bob said NO !!!!!!!!... no consideration for years of build and time taken to build the boat, just NO.... build a new cockpit........which he could change the rules again and again, as he has
Why is it set at 160MPH... and NOT affecting boats that circuit race at speeds above 160MPH..... well, that's blatantly obvious ...
Bob Wartingers poor decisions have cost our team hundreds of thousands of dollars... and years of work...... why is he singling out a class that only affects a few boats???......who would know... The Head of H1 hydroplane engineering has told BOB Wartinger the new rules are untenable, plus the UIM doesn't have the high speed crash experience that H1 has, a Former Donald Campbell engineer wrote and engineering paper ( conferred with a British university ) to Bob Wartinger and the UIM explaining how the rules cannot work....... he got NO reply for his time...
So....... you still want to break a world record on water, be it outboard, unlimited, prop etc etc.... we strongly suggest avoiding the UIM... they are the world body for powerboating,,, BUT not the only body for world records.. so go elsewhere, and good luck
if you have spent the time ( years) and money ( hundred's of thousands easily) and years dealing with an incompetent , inconsistent organisation as the UIM, I'm sure you would be pissed too
All we wish to do is break an Unlimited water speed record .... not deal with someone's agenda....... I hope the UIM has a good legal advice
wow he just flat out said no
thats crazy
maybe get a petition going and then the uim would have to reconsider there minds
just a thought
last i heard was there looking for 5 newtons or more is this still the case
Thanks AFR,
Believe me, it will fall on deaf ears..... we have been dealing with this issue for 2 years now, clearing rules for some and rules for others,.... and people with their own agendas, protecting their own interests
Who would the average person on the street know....UIM or Guinness book of World records??... my father has held the unlimited water speed record for 37 years, he will tell you most people think its a Guinness book of records world record, even other racers have asked Who's the UIM????....
one will cost you time and money, the other will work with you, they are the world body for world records, and no one there holds a water speed record, so should be fine
yea the same thing always happens in racing u cant have people in power that even own a race car or boat or anything else
it seems the deck is always stacked in there favor
same as the government for that matter its all in who you know for everything
The UIM would not dare buck the H-1 guys. They know all to well that the rich people in that sport would simply create another association with favorable rules and tell UIM to take a hike Mike. Who need um anyway. Do your own thing and there will be governing association`s bodies linning up to recognize your new record and be proud to have you. Why wouldn`t they. It`s only the fastest record on water in the whole damn world.
Think about it like this. If you set a new water record and UIM will not recognize it and somebody else does then you will in effect own two water speed records in two different associations.
Sorry for posting this on aerotech`s thread but this sort of crap just gets my dander up!

Who else recognizes outboard speed records? (Besides Ron Hill)
You know the more I read about his capsule standards I find it hard to believe that, Even the space shuttle could even pass or so far anything man made. Not only do we far surpass current capsule standards but as I have stated before we have a complete Molly chassis in the boat, good enough for Top Fuel but not a boat at half the speed on water and not asphalt with a concrete barrier? Makes perfectly good sense to me. You know what I do care about is the people that really do know as the people on this forum. Everyone will know if we do go faster or if we do not. Thanks for the support to all of you. Have a great weekend, Thanks Rick
Screw the UIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its that simple. Who gives a crap about them and their stupid rules. Put up a damn number and everyone who has any common sense will respect it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bob Wartingwho ??????????? F#$K Bob
Chaz = thinkin this might be a more realistic thread to talk about setting the Outboard speed record .. ;)

My Father and I have tried to work with the UIM, becoming UIM approved cockpit manufacturers, requesting via our APBA to have our cockpit retrospectively approved, as these boats take many years to build, but NO, Bob Wartinger selectively hands out "Grandfathering" cockpits........ as many boats have raced for decades, won UIM world titles with NO UIM approval, and Bob has ticked the paperwork and said all is OK... But he has gone to great lengths to say NO to us...
The UIM ( Bob Wartinger and his faithful team of supporters at the UIM ) will shortly have to answer under oath to this "selective rules" and how boats can win championships and race this year with not a UIM registered cockpit in sight, ... and just say NO to our request to be treated the same as other racers...... after wasting our time and money, so they ought too
Every form of motorsport, racing has a minimum standard for safety, the FIA tell the Unlimited land speed guy's shooting for a 1000MPH, a 6 point drag car roll cage will be fine...... But Bob Wartingers new rules for the UIM ( as he is head of safety ) are completely untenable, the H1 guys have told them that,.....infact H1 have more experience in high speed boat crashes than the UIM, .... so who should be telling who???
how can the head of UIM safety say a pack of boats running in an oval at speeds greater than 160MPH, is safer than a single boat running at over 160MPH?? and the boat running alone in a straight line needs an different"engineered" cockpit, Rules are being made and changed so some people can justify their positions in the sports governing body I think, as the rules don't make any sense
If worth noting that the UIM cockpit/ safety committee has a Jetski rider on the panel.... so he even gets to vote on what you can and cannot do with your water speed record boat.......AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!
the best advice for ANYONE shooting for any water speed class record above 160MPH, don't worry about the UIM, get Guinness World records to over see the event, and Tick it of as a world record.....
Our outright, unlimited water speed record run soon will still be timed over a 2 way kilo run, on a surveyed course, with certified timing gear, just no UIM in attendance , Guinness book of records instead .. the fastest boat will be the fastest boat simple
My father has held the unlimited water speed record for 37 years, holder of two UIM gold medals, MBE of the queen of England....plus many other awards for his achievement's in the sport of Powerboating and this is how the current people running the sports world body treat their champions .....an embarrassing time for the UIM
