And I was saying that a flying kilometer might be the kind of thing a battery boat might do well in. But a shootout (if I am reading you right) might present an even bigger advantage for a battery boat.

If so, will Shaun line up with the whole hoard of other racers and mat it when the flag drops? Sounds like an even bigger advantage for the right-now torque of an electric motor. Shall we then expect Shaun to be not just the fastest battery boat, but the fastest outright?

Thanks for sharing. I know about energy and propulsion, including by battery and electricity. But I know nothing about boat racing and the kinds of speeds we are talking about here.

So, last year Shaun ran what? 107'ish mph in a flying kilometer... How fast were the other cats in the 32 foot or so category running? Was he miles off? Or was he kind of mid-pack'ish, not winning but at least kind of in the fight?

I've only been into boating since Obama tanked the economy and boats in that era were selling for almost nothing. And I'm the world's greatest advocate for family recreational boating, but I don't know anything about racing boats. (I do have a (now expired) sports car road racing license). So apologies to the real racers if I'm asking dumb questions.

The shootout is 3/4 mile 1 boat at a time and you cant get a long run up.32 Cats were running 120 in 3/4 A 36 Doug Wright went 128 in 3/4 course .In a kilo run they would be higher speeds.The electric boat only has enough juice to run the course and had some overheat issues.We rode 35 miles each way to and from the shootout in the boat that went 128.Electric will get there 1 day but no range for them at high speed yet.

I saw that there will be a legit APBA/UIM kilo record event for offshore this year same weekend as the shootout. Two way runs of course in same area as the shootout but with longer runup area.

Shootout used to be a mile course with 40mph entry and peak speed measured with radar. Kind of a structured sandbar contest than real records.

As you know, in 2010, the course changed. Due to some safety concerns, the Missouri State Water Patrol, in conjunction with our Course Committee, have moved the starting location of the course. The finish line is at the same place, only you will be starting downstream instead of by the bridge. The bluff will be on your left side instead of your right. After the finish line, you will have approximately 5/6 of a mile to shut down before you reach Hi-Way Cove. You must be at idle speed when you reach the docks in front of Royale Palms and Plaza Gardens Condominiums.

"This new course proved to be an excellent course. All racers had time to shut down after their run and there were very few safety concerns. One of those concerns was the idle out to the start area. This is a totally no wake zone and we just want to remind you that there is oncoming traffic that you need to be aware of. Stay close to the shoreline and most of this traffic can be avoided."

The KILO runs are very limited for entry prof. class only not many can run

Yeah, I believe kilo record attempts are still limited to racers that participate in the class. Used to be they also had to have certain points standing. Haven't seen the rulebook in 40 years but I doubt that has changed.
