While we are at it tonight, to achieve this speed you would have some insane prop slip numbers considering you are running in freshwater. According to mercury's prop slip calculator these are the results.
RPM- 6100
Pitch- 26
Ratio- 1.85 (according to evenrudes website as per 225 etec)
Speed- 81
% Slip-0!!!

Seen 90 on this speedo but its not GPS. I have no idea how fast it goes, its a Medallion speedo & a $10.00 4" plastic pick up and even if you figure pitch gear ratio & RPM you still have an unknown % of slip.
GPS trust but verify.

I really do love that sutphen, i have to come and see that thing in person one of these days!

Mike I have run the boat right next to my friends bass boat with a gps and I am not lying on the speed. I am not trying to get you worked up. As you said before the less boat in the water the faster it will run.... the water is breaking after the V in the velocity that is on the side and as you know there is not alot of boat after that. My hull is a 1986. As for playing around with the motor the cover has only been off to change the fuel filter. If you guys know of any mods that can be done I am all ears . James gang if you are going to the romp please help me verify the speed as it will be a very long winter without. As I stated before the prop was way wrong at the last romp and I could not get it to turn any rpm's so yes i was only getting like 74 out of it which is what my speedo was reading. For the life of me I cant remember the name of my gauges but is a low water pick up type that is on the nose of the lower. No tricks gentleman and I am not knocking either of your boats as they were both class acts. Mike i cant figure out what would make your boat so light.... the only thing I had more than you was a back seat but as you said before your dad more than out weighted my seat which I would say is around 60-80 lbs as it is not the original seat. I think my boat is still lighter which is why it is running better than you thought. As for the xb yes I did see 83 with it and it probably would have went more if not for turning into a hand grenade. As for the lower it was my first Mercury and probably my last so I will have to assume you are right on its limits. But again the merc was mounted up an extra hole on transom. As for driving I believe I can hold my own. And again relax ...as my dad always said as fast as you are there is always someone faster you just may not have met them yet. Enjoy your boat and the last days of summer.

You just answered all of my questions you saw 81 mph on your waterfed speed pickup. That is exactly what i was getting at. Thank you for the response.
Just for a side note, comparing the pro-xb to ur etec based off what the waterfed speedo reads is highly innacurate because the same speedo is reading a speed number through 2 complete different lower unit pickups. If its not a gps verify backed up by a second gps verify it isnt even worth a post. Atleast that is how it is done for bragging rights where I come from.

You post faster than I can type. We'll get you some pictures. How many times do I have to tell you it was the wrong prop? Maybe my speedo is off a little but not that much. The picture you so conveniently came up with my boat is not even trimmed out. Good choice for your picture though.

that is why i asked you the type of speedo. those water pick up speedos more often than not misread. last season i had a 200 2.4 on 5 inches of setback and it said i was doing 70 and i barely roke 60 on gps. this year with the 3.0 and 12 inch jackplate i hit 72 a couple of times on the gps speedo i put in over the winter. i wasnt trying to call u a liar or anything i just had a feeling that u might be getting a false reading. ur boat was deffinately faster than mine at the romp u drove right past me more than once, i just didnt physically understand how it would be possile for a speed that high though. thanks for clearing it up a little. get urself a gps and get us some numbers! have a good time this weekend, i wish i was able to make it up, but my motor is getting winterized and puled off the boat and the checkmate is going up for sale this weekend. i have a new project on the way =)

Do you have an aired and trimmed picture you would like to share???
-
Hey 3.6
Ill have the Sutphen up there this weekend. I'll be glad to clock it for ya & post the speed Sunday night. You guys all trust me to tell the truth? If you do I'll post it.
-
Go for it, I am dying to know a real speed number. Since velocity 3.6gt has called me out numerous times id liek to know what im up against!
-
Hey Starflight
What are you putting together. Put up some pictures.
-
What are you getting? I hope someone is willing to run next to me at the romp to attempt to verify my numbers I do belive that my speedo is damn close though. If it is off by more than two I will be very surprised.... but I have been wrong before. Mike as for bragging rights show up this weekend..... please.
-
James gang thanks lookin forward to an unbiased reading. And maybe a picture or two.
-
James gang by the way I want a ride.

As previously stated before this entire conversation took place this weekend is just not a possability. Believe me I am itching to make it up there, but it just is not possible.
