Bill Shakespeares record run speed 118mph one way and return run of 89mph I am sure i have mentioned before in 1971 Bill tried to up this speed record at Brugge in 1971 but things never went to plan.I have no idea why this certificate says 1971 he was killed in october 1971 and set this record in oct 1970.
@STEVERINO
You are correct..if you read close I guess it says the record was run October 1970 (red circle) and UIM was slow the make the certificate and thats the 1971 date in a blue circle.

Renato and his team with his #18 Molinari cat powered by twin Evinrude F1-V8 pure race engines. I would not race this boat for all the money in the world. No safety what so ever..a thin layer of fiberglass in front of you..close to 1000 HP behind you..
You need big balls to pilot/race this rocket..!!https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f602.pnghttps://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f44d.png..
Thanks Cathy McConnell for the first picture never seen before.

Well..Renato drove the twin engine boat with big balls..
Not sure what type of balls it takes to race the four engine boat..https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f602.png
Jimbo McConnell drove the U-19 USA Racing Team boat powered by four Johnson F1-V8 pure racing outboards.. Close to 2,000 HP behind you and no safety cell..
Pretty crazy..but another boat racing fact.
Thanks Cathy for your help and pictures

Lots of people are asking me why I am spending all the time running this thread and the FaceBook page.
Here is one of many reasons..pretty nice comment and I enjoy keeping the OMC racing history alive.
Thanks to everyone clicking in here and/or on the FaceBook page.
On the FB page Bill Grannis and I are spending lots of time screening new members.
Of ten asking per day..only around two get accepted..

You should write a book using all this.

Thanks @BLisBack!
If there was an easy way to do so I am ready but dont have the right "book contacts"
Go with a ghost writer service. They will do the hard work for you. You just provide the material, which you've already done here.
Awesome stuff. Just do it, that way it will be preserved between two hardcovers.

The Lake Havasu Race was always held on Thanksgiving Weekend.
In 1968, maybe 1969, Dieter and his friend, Franz, came to my Mothers house in Needles and had Thanksgiving Dinner with our Family. My Mom was a good Texas cook. It was a Great meal and friendship. Dieter and Franz both LOVED the American Holiday. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e....5/16/2764.png https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f604.png
Interesting picture I got from Cathy McConnell..:)
Thanks.
I also got the opportunity to race the BP 200 in South Africa but not the attention from Miss BP as Jimbo did..

Okay…..here is the story…….this photo was taken on a PR day and Test Day. At this race, Jimbo was running the Evinrude Rotary. The wind was blowing and the water was very rough. The decision was made not to put the Rotary’s in the water. The PR people and the writers still wanted their photos and stories. Gerry’s boat was in the pits on the trailer. This photo is not in the water. Jimbo got in the cockpit and Miss BP got on the boat behind him for a photo shoot on the trailer in the pit. Someone should have laid something over Gerry’s name to prevent confusion,
but they were all too busy with Miss BP to think about that. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e...5/16/1f923.png
Now you know the rest of the story.
